Quick Update (Weigh-in)

Not a ton of time today (as has been the case every day this week), but I wanted to make sure I didn’t forget to pop my results up on the blog today. So here we go, quick like a bunny:

(Re)Starting Weight: 236.6 lbs
Last Weigh-in: 223.7
This Weigh-in: 222.2 lbs
Difference: -1.5 lbs

And the train just keeps on rolling! Huzzah! Let’s just hope that this isn’t some kind of weird streak of stress-related weight loss due to my crazy schedule right now, hahaha.

See you guys on the flip!

Making Progress, Seeing Results (Weigh-in)

All right y’all, I’m cutting straight to the chase today. Allow me to PROUDLY present the following:

(Re)Starting Weight: 236.6 lbs
Last Weigh-in: 228.7
This Weigh-in: 223.7 lbs
Difference: -5.0 lbs!

Ta-daaaaaaa!! Guess all of that stress not-eating over Passport to Mosaic is finally working in my favor! Ahahaha. No, I kid, I kid, I have really been working on changing my eating habits this week, and am working hard at getting back into the swing of things. I guess this is proof that it’s working! (Of course, the lack of french fries in my current Lenten diet may also have something to do with it…)

I’ve officially re-lost the weight gained from my weeks in San Francisco and Macon, and then some! I am a very happy camper, and it’s true what they say, seeing results is honestly the best motivator in keeping my spirits up and goals in mind. FIVE pounds, bitches!

I’m hoping that at this point, my weight loss is starting to manifest itself with physical results too. I’ve mentioned before that because of my body shape — being tall and big-footed and large-framed and whatnot — weight loss can be very difficult to discern in tangible ways until I’ve lost a really significant amount. It often feels like five, even ten pounds here or there hardly makes a difference in how I look, which can be discouraging.

Luckily, I’ve got this totally awesome five pound loss to keep pushing me forward! And whether it’s from the power of suggestion or it’s my body finally catching up to the poundage I’ve tossed thus far, I do think my pants were a little looser this morning. 😉

And in other news…

Say hello to my new hair color!

I feel like a beautiful mermaid, all thanks to my main man Linh at Be Scene Hair Studio. It seriously takes on a different shade in every light, and I loveloveLOVE it!

Man, every time I dye my hair, I love it so much that I swear I’m never going to another color. “I’ve gone purple and I’m never going back!” “Viva la pink forever!” And then I inevitably change it because it fades and I’m fickle like that and I fall EVEN more in love with the next one! I’m gonna have to have a poll once I’ve finished going through the rainbow so you guys can help me pick the one that looks best, hahaha.

Anyway, that’s all for today, folks! Have a great weekend, and think positive, happy thoughts for me as Passport kicks off on Sunday! I’ll see you when it’s over — provided I’m still alive, ‘course.

YBL 2014 Final Weigh-In

Well, my complete and total lack of posting this week is indicative of the fact that I very nearly went totally insane from how busy I’ve been. I leave for San Francisco on Sunday for CM Week — the annual Community Manager summit over at Yelp HQ. And while I couldn’t be more excited to get to spend an entire week with some of my Yelpy cohorts who I thus far have only known online (and most of you should know how much I love turning online friends into real life friends by now!) getting things tied up in a semi-respectable bow before I leave has been a little bit stressful.

However, not so stressful that I was unable to remember to tally up for my final Yelp’s Biggest Loser weigh-in! That particular challenge ends today (though obviously I still have many personal challenges and goals still to come!), so let’s get on that, shall we?

(Re)Starting Weight: 236.6 lbs
Last Weigh-in: 226.2
This Weigh-in: 225.1 lbs
Difference: -1.1 lbs

Heyyyyy, I’ll take it! I’m the first one to admit that my eats this week were NOT exactly on point (there may have been an evening spent at Red Lobster somewhere in there…) so I’m actually kind of shocked I was able to lose anything at all. I consider that a definite win.

So this brings my YBL Challenge totals to 11.5 pounds lost and a 4.9% change. Which almost definitely means I didn’t win any kind of prize as the grand poobah of weight loss (we have a guy who’s lost like 9%!) but I still consider it a valient effort that I’m certainly proud of. After all, hey! I’m 11.4 pounds lighter than I was when I started.

And now? Well, you know! Onward and downward and all that good stuff… after a probable bit of relapse given that I’m headed to San Francisco, the land of the Sushiritto.

The Lost Weigh-in

Between the logging of my weigh-ins on My Fitness Pal and reporting my %s of weight lost for Yelp’s Biggest Loser and, of course, all of the dancing around my bathroom that I do every time I have a loss, it only just occurred to me that I never actually blogged about my weigh-in from this past Friday!

Bad weight loss blogger! Bad Gretchen!

This is actually a reaction shot to experiencing my very first raw oyster this weekend (I did actually like it, once I got over the initial weirdness!), but I figured the expression was still apt, haha.

Anywho, rest assured that the information did not go unrecorded, so I’ll just catch you up right quick on my most recent foray onto the scale.

(Re)Starting Weight: 236.6 lbs
Last Weigh-in: 227.5
This Weigh-in: 226.2 lbs
Difference: -1.3 lbs

Hallelujah and blessed be, I have made it to the 10 pounds lost club yet again! I am a very happy camper indeed that I have yet to have a week without at least some kind of loss (although I know a gain or a stall will happen eventually, I’m just gonna be happy with what I’ve got for as long as I’ve got it!) and hopefully a full ten libbies means that maybe the slimdown is starting to be semi-noticeable?

It’s so hard for me to tell, not only because I’m, y’know, me, and thus I see myself every day and so subtle changes are difficult to see, but also because of my frame, even when I’m not at my current weight, losing or gaining five pounds doesn’t really mean much to the naked eye.

But whether it’s wishful thinking or actual fact, I do think that some of my clothing is starting to fit a little nicer again, and I feel like my stomach might just be a millimeter or two flatter. Onward, downward, and whatnot, right? Here’s hoping that I continue to do really well this week, because I’m off to San Francisco next weekend to spend an entire week with my Yelpy coworkers in one of the foodiest cities in the country! Urrrrk!

On With the Show (Weigh-in)

Hey there, neighbors!

I hope you’ve all had an eventful and productive week! I know I have… I’m currently working on planning a large promotion here in Northern Virginia (Yelp’s Passport to Mosaic! — keep your eyes akimbo for more news about it soon, since it’ll be open to ERRRRRYBODY!) and spent the first three days of this week in nonstop meetings and calls. Whew! I mean, I appreciate having a reason to get out of the house (and out of my jammies) as much as the next person, but boy, do I feel like I’ve deserved this weekend.

Except, it won’t exactly be the relaxing, no-plans weekend that I would ideally have laid out in front of me, since things kick off tomorrow with a 5K! My first 5K, in fact, since — hooooo boy — I don’t even know when the last race I participated in was. I think it honestly might have been Reach the Beach… wowzers. Anyway, I’ve been upping my running game little by little over the past month or so, but we’ll have to see how it goes A) running outside (I’ve been doing all treadmill running so far) and B) being back in a race environment again for the first time in over a year. But since this particular race, the Cupid Run, seems like it’ll be on the smaller, more intimate side, hopefully it’ll be a good one to get back in the game with.

Plus, everyone who runs gets a pair of heart-shaped deely boppers! #worthit

Anyway, onto the main event:

(Re)Starting Weight: 236.6 lbs
Last Weigh-in: 230.7
This Weigh-in: 229.6 lbs
Difference: -1.1 lbs

Whoop! I’ll take it! Consider me officially out of the 230s and continuing to wind my way dooooown. This week brought with it another bout of eating difficulties due to the metal braces strapped to the back of my teeth, further educating me in the types of things I can and cannot eat.

For example:

Sandwiches made with any kind of delicious, crusty bread are out. So clearly, this is going to be the real key of my weight loss.

ANYWAY. While unfortunately non-Wonder Bread sandwiches may be out, Peking Duck, which we went out for last night in celebration of my mama’s birthday, surprisingly is still in!

To which I say, “Thank GOODNESS!” because Peking Duck is outrageously delicious. And totally worth the 15 minutes I spent brushing and flossing my teeth afterwards to get stuff out of my braces.

Alas, I do think that this uneven eating schedule, as well as the uneven amounts that I’m able to eat — partially due to just physically being able to eat at all, and partially due to the ridonkulously slow speed at which I am able to consume things — isn’t doing me any favors in the weight loss department. Which actually sucks, because I would much rather have easy weight loss as a side effect of these things, over, you know, tongue ulcers and stuff.

Of course, I also have a sneaking suspicion that my body is just being spiteful about making it go through this all again, so there’s that. But after 25 years of weight fluctuations, diets, “diets,” and all the other crap I’ve put it through, I can’t really blame it for not behaving properly. Which is why I just gotta keep doing what I’m doing, try to get back to my regularly scheduled programming, and hope that things even out eventually.

Anyway, another pound down is another pound down, and while it’s hard not to feel like my progress has been slowing over the past couple of weeks, I’m trying to take your advice and stay positive. After all, just as many of you accurately pointed out, weight loss may come down to a “formula” (calories in vs. calories out) but we all know that results don’t always adhere to a schedule.

And so, it’s on with the show we go! Onward, downward, and so on, and so forth. Allons-y!
