Bright Lights, Ocean City

Hallo! Here we are with part dos of my Ocean City beach weekend adventure. Need to catch up on Part 1? Clickity click, you know the drill.

I Heart You, Ocean.

I know I left you in rapt anticipation of reports on the rest of my weekend (which, of course, I’ve deluded myself into thinking you actually care about, mwahaha) so let’s get to it!

IMG_0073.jpg

After the beach happened on Sunday (since every day started off with the beach, duh!) we went a-mini-golfin’. This was not just your average, everday putt-putt though…

IMG_0093.jpg

This was PIRATE mini-golf!

Ahoy-hoy!

ARRRRRR!

IMG_0075.jpg

I was purple, natch.

IMG_0084.jpgIMG_0083.jpg
Swing and a miss!

I was also terrible at mini-golf, natch.

IMG_0095.jpgIMG_0086.jpg

At least I had fun trying!

IMG_0081.jpg

I’m pretty sure that losing at mini-golf is not the thing that will set me over the edge anyway. Besides, I knew I’d be able to drown my sorrows at the Boardwalk afterwards anyway!

Drown my sorrows in ice cream, that is! Dumser’s is amazing.

IMG_0113.jpg
IMG_0117.jpg

As you can see, I basically made love to my soft serve orange and vanilla swirl.

Dumser's

IMG_0122.jpg

You’re welcome for that.

Monday morning ended with more time on the beach, my back getting wrecked by the sun (worth it!) and a long, lazy drive home — complete with a Cracker Barrel pit stop. All in all, a fabulous weekend.

Now when’s the next beach trip? 😉

The OC

Just Beachy

No, you silly geese. Not the show. The place!

IMG_0110.jpg

I’m back from my beach vacation thoroughly satisfied and sunburnt. Hooray! I think I did a fairly good job sticking to my plan to eat better even if I wasn’t eating great while there. Check it out:

Game on.

Yup. Hahahahaha. There was, of course, room for a few indulgences though!

Portion control, baby!

IMG_0013.jpg

The condo we stayed in was small but definitely fit the bill, and it was right on the beach! What else can you ask for? The first picture of this post is the view from our balcony — sweet, right? And the nautical decorations were, well, you know. We all have a special relationship with those fish now.

IMG_0015.jpg

Even though my friends are fail at pre-ordering their Harry Potter 7: Part II midnight showing tickets (guess who’s gonna be standing in line at Tysons all by her supercool self?), they were a pretty fun gang to spend time with at the beach, I guess. 😉

We make a pretty studly group, if I do say so myself. Even if we are incapable of taking a decent picture without constant threat of photobombs.

PhotoBOMB
IMG_0063.jpg
IMG_0065.jpg

Le sigh. <3

I did discover rather quickly that beach = sand, and sand = fear for expensive camera’s life. So, not too many photos were actually taken of me ON the beach (sad, I know!) But I did take plenty of mini-golf and our boardwalk adventures. As well as several self-indulgent portraits of myself, haha.

IMG_0016.jpgIMG_0039.jpg

As for the aforementioned activities, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait to see those puppies since I don’t want to be responsible for your death via photo overload, haha. So! I’ll either be back later on today or tomorrow with the rest of the pics from the trip. Since I love you though, I will give you a preview of our epic putt-putt game (where I respectably and unsurprisingly placed second-to-last, haha):

Swing and a miss!

Bahahaha. I am the best mini-golfer ever.

What’s your boardwalk must-have? Are you a taffy person? Boardwalk fries? Pizza? This weekend the treat that took the cake for me was the ice cream from Dumser’s on the boardwalk. I got vanilla-orange swirl and it was amazing!

Great Grapes! (Weigh-in)

First things first, not that I think you could have avoided hearing this news, but it’s official: Osama Bin Laden is dead as a doorknob! Check out POTUS’s speech here! (POTUS stands for President Of The United States in case you were wondering. It’s the one thing I most remember learning from watching The West Wing, hahaha.)

Allrighty, now that I’ve made a small mention of this incredibly momentous news, I can feel totally justified in moving onto the more important stuff, right? Namely, my weekend! Hahahaha. As I mentioned in Friday’s post, the big to-do this weekend was attend the Great Grapes Festival in Reston with my friends Reema, Laura, and her fiance Conrad.

IMG_6849.jpg

It was a lot of fun! I’ve never been a big wine aficionado but I feel like this weekend definitely helped me hone my taste buds a bit. I even bought a few bottles! Of course, they taste like alcoholic grape juice but hey, baby steps, right?

Sunny Day

IMG_6863.jpg

It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and a lot of fun times spent with friends. There were so many puppers there, too! But I think I definitely made the right choice in leaving my fur babies at home, where they got to go to the dog park with Uncle Ben.

IMG_6854.jpgIMG_6856.jpg

Some people have HUMONGOUS dogs, that’s all I can say. The one on the left was the spitting image of my family’s first dog, Shadow! 🙂

Naturally, I came home with a few goodies, too:

IMG_6859.jpg
IMG_6883.jpg
IMG_6882.jpg

I especially enjoyed getting to taste the various oils and vinegars that were set up in stands all around, and just couldn’t resist picking up a bottle. I can’t wait to use this cherry jalapeno jam in all sorts of dishes, too. It’s SO delicious – sweet but with HEAT!

After the festival, Reema, Laura, Conrad and I all headed over to hang out with fellow blogger Julie and her boyfriend Dan! It was low key and the perfect way to spend a night after being out in the sun (and y’know, drinking) all day. Hehe.

IMG_6907.jpg
IMG_6902.jpg
IMG_6910.jpg

Yes, there was both pizza and cake consumption, and it was marvelous. 🙂 If you’re curious about the necklace I’m wearing in the above group shot (where I’m totally out of focus, ahahaha), here is a closeup of the awesomeness:

Mwahaha!

Mwahaha! It makes me feel so delightfully sinister.

Also, check out the awesome scoopnecked sunburn I got from being out in the sun all day at the festival (in my new CK dress which I am totally in love with and you should go to Marshall’s right away to see if they still have any left – $30, yo!)

Scoopneck Sunburn

Yeah, that’s hot.

Anyway, let’s move onto the judgement of the hour, shall we? I’ll make it short & sweet:

Starting Weight: 246 lbs.
Last Week’s Weight: 196.0 lbs
This Week’s Weight: 195.6 lbs
This Week’s Loss: -0.4 lbs
Total Loss-to-Date: 50.4 lbs.

Erm. WTF? I am not happy. I thought I was doing so well this week! Maybe it’s my body holding onto all the wine and pizza from Saturday. Either way, I’m getting a little bit sick of being stuck in the 190s. It feels like I haven’t REALLY lost weight since February! All this yo-yoing and tiny, minute losses are really started to get to me. I’ve been doing yoga and weights/ab work at home legitimately regularly, too! Blargh.

Ah well, I’m not going to let this ruin my memory of a perfectly good weekend. I’m feeling pretty sick today too (when am I not sick, huh?) so I’m just going to go ahead and blame it on that, haha.

Oh, one last thing. On Friday’s post a lot of you commented asking about the groupon I received for my laser hair removal. Coincidentally, it turns out that today on What’s the Deal, the group deals site for the metro DC area I told you about, has another deal for the same place I’m going, the Esthetic Laser Clinic. It’s not quiiiite as good a deal as the one I got, but it’s still a HUGE discount if you’re interested in getting laser hair removal on your bikini line, or a microderm/facial session. If you’re in the area, sign up (free!) and check it out!

Peace and release, my friends.

Thankful (Part 2)

Okay, okay, yes, I know. This post is long overdue. An entire weekend overdue, in fact. But hey! It’s been a holiday, which roughly translates into vacation most of the time, right? So, I vacated this blog for a few days. But I’m back! And here’s all the glorious stuff you’ve missed out on. 😉

First things first: Thanksgiving Dinner!!

It was delicious, amazing, and fabulous. As the Head Chef, I don’t think that’s bragging at all. Hehe. No, it really did turn out pretty wonderfully, and we made (mostly) healthy substitutions for everything we ate. The turkey was definitely the piece de la resistance, my pride & joy. Brining is the way to go, people! I’m never going back. Brine, brine, brine!

I was crazy busy between the 5K that morning, seeing Tangled with the fam, and then cooking up a storm so I didn’t think to take photos of everything we made, save for the Lemon Meringue Pie I made the night before:

I’ll admit, it was a pie-tastrophe. It was my first attempt! It looked great at first glance, and it tasted really good, even if it ended up more sauce than pie… oh well. Does anyone know if you’re supposed to fully bake the lemon part before you put the meringue part into the oven? Because the meringue would have been totally burnt to a crisp if I had left it in any longer, but the middle was soooo runny, it didn’t take shape at all!

On the table we’ve got the entire Thanksgiving menu that I detailed in an earlier post, and here are a couple close-ups of my plate (the salad with beets, arugula, red onion, dried cranberries, and my homemade honey mustard vinaigrette was especially scrumptious!!)

All in all, a grand success! And it was wonderful to be able to share the experience with my family, including my aunt and uncle who drove up from Roanoke, and my mom who was  able to come home from the hospital just the day before!

Other activities that occurred this weekend included festively decorating the house for the next holiday! Now that Thanksgiving is over we can finally start preparing for Christmas, my FAVORITE HOLIDAY EVER!!!!! We went tree shopping on the 26th, hehehe.

Our tree has since obtained a few more ornaments, and there are other decorations that will be going up soon, so be prepared for more photos. Consider this a mere sample of the Christmas-y joy yet to come. Also, please don’t think that I love Daxter more than Harry just because Harry doesn’t have a stocking up. Harry’s stocking is just still tucked away in my parents’ attic, so as soon as their Xmas boxes come down, his will be hung by the fire with care as well. Also, I’ll try to take better pictures once everything is all finished so that I can appropriately convey the splendiforousness to you all. (Maybe I can cajole my brother into letting me borrow his fancy-schmancy SLR camera…) 😀

Also, we had a homemade pizza night using the pizza dough you can buy from Trader Joe’s.

Mine was a whole wheat crust with half-Hawaiian toppings (ham and pineapple) and half-Mediterranean toppings (chicken sausage, mushrooms, olives, capers, and prosciutto).

Unfortunately, my crust got stuck to the tinfoil in the oven and didn’t get cooked all the way through anyway, so I ended up just scraping off all the toppings and picking at them, hehe. Ben’s, Taylor’s, and Steve’s turned out pretty good though!

Most of my, er, “pizza casserole” still in a container in the fridge though, because we snacked on hummus and pita chips so much while we were making the pizzas that I was full by the time they were done!

Okay, I guess that’s about it for now. I am definitely nervous about my weigh-in tomorrow, although I’m surprised that I’m not freaking out MORE. I just know that I’m anticipating a gain from this week. I mean, despite all my intentions to eat healthy for Thanksgiving, I still ate A LOT of food, healthy or not. And I haven’t really had any exercise since running the 5K Thursday morning, so that’s a lot of days for me to build back up on whatever calorie-deficit I might have had going for me. But whatever, it’s a special week, and the holidays are hard. Hopefully you guys won’t judge me too harshly, and hopefully this won’t have caused me to stray too far off-track.

Regardless, I am so thankful for how far I’ve come. I’m thankful for knowing I have such strong support even if tomorrow ends up going badly for me. And I’m thankful that I have the knowledge and the tools now to keep going. To persevere. To reach my goals. So, thank you.

And with that last bit of cheese, I’m out. <3

Oh wait, I forgot to mention the other thing that I spent the majority of my weekend doing: trolling Amazon.com for Black Friday lightning deals and spending an obscene amount of money on Christmas gifts. Just had to throw that in there. And tomorrow’s “Cyber Monday” so I’m sure there is more spending to be done. Don’t you just love this season?! 😀
