Lunch Packer

Confession time, guys. I have been REALLY bad about packing my lunch to work over the past month. Like, really, really bad. Like, I’m pretty sure I could have bought an iPad with the money I’ve been spending on food lately, bad.


That all changes today.

Because I actually went grocery shopping last night (shock!), and I picked up some of my favorite lunchtime snack items. Also, when my friend Holly was here last week, I got a totes adorbs (shaddup) new lunchbox from the Vera Bradley outlet.


(Please note that is not my Yingling in the background… sadly. Hahaha.) I knew that it was time for this puppy to be USED! So, here is my lunch du jour! I just know you have all been waiting with baited breath.


Item #1 is a sandwich of ham, cheese, and potato bread (my faaaaav!) with mustard and a smear of mayo. (~280 calories)


Then we have some delicious snacks in the form of 2% string cheese (70 calories), a mini babybel light wheel (50 calories) and a fruit cup (80 calories).


I also packed a teeny tiny PB&J sammy, made with some ultrathin bread my parents gave me. (~110 calories)


And last, but not least, grapes. Nom nommity nom. (60 calories)


Oh, and dessert. Leftover Halloween candy FTW! (50 calories)

I know it seems like a lot of food, especially for someone who is supposedly on a “diet” (still hate that word, but you know what I mean). It’s 700 calories’ worth, in fact. But I’m trying really, really hard to shift back the focus of my daily meals. I was doing pretty well with feeling satiated and with my weight loss when I was able to maintain more of an inverted triangle (making the “big” meal of the day breakfast or lunch instead of dinner). I’m still not great at eating a HUGE breakfast (although breakfast is back in general, thank goodness), so I’m trying to make it happen for lunch.

Who knows if I’ll actually end up eating ALL this stuff today (um, actually, who are we kidding, of course I will!), but it’s not like I’m going to eat it all in a single sitting. Spread throughout the day, this list encompasses my morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack, which means it’s all totally within regular limits. Huzzah!

Now, hopefully, this ends up being a long-lasting lunch-bringing streak (say that five times fast!) so I can save money AND know exactly what I’m putting in my mouth (Oh no, I CAN’T STOP).

Play Ball!

So today my office took a trip to the ballpark for the Nats v. Mets game! It was really nice to be able to get out of the office and on an outing with coworkers, and my boss even was chosen for a quiz show thing on the jumbotron! She won some Rosetta Stone software, which is pretty cool. It was CRAZY hot though, so we didn’t end up staying past the bottom of the 7th inning. I also, unfortunately, had to contend with ballpark food for lunch. I tried to be pretty good and got a grilled chicken sandwich (didn’t eat the bun), but I also indulged… in some french fries. Oops. I just couldn’t resist the spirit of America’s Pastime.

Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the park.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks
french fries and hot dogs and chicken tenders and ice cream and chili and burgers and cotton candy,
I don’t care if I ever come back
have a heart attack…

I actually don’t feel THAT bad about it. I mean, I’m still technically under my caloric limit for the day, and I didn’t really spend much time sitting at the ballpark, because it was so hot. So between all the walking around and standing, and the fact that I haven’t really eaten anything unhealthy in a long time, I don’t feel too terrible. Just gotta make sure I step it up for the rest of the week! I think that I’m really coming a long way in my mentality toward food and its relationship to my self-esteem. These are positive steps, people!

We had really great seats, too, although we never actually sat in them because they were burning up! Unfortunately we weren’t under an awning, because we were just too close to the field! So the above photos are taken from the top of the seats section, where we stood and watched for a while.

At the ballpark there were some Presidential Mascots walking around that were hilarious but a little bit freaky, actually. Didn’t get a photo with them, but got a photo of some people taking a photo with them!

So I intended to blog some more yesterday after posting my weigh-in so that I could show you all my superfun new lunch tiffin:

It’s a little two-layer bento box-inspired lunchbox, and it makes bringing my lunch to work so fun (which I do basically every day now–minus today.) And yes, that may or may not be a Hello Kitty toaster in the background. Don’t judge me.

So I made a fun, nutritious eggplant napoleon (props to my sister, Jen, for the name and meal suggestion) last night! It turned out to be a success so I’ll be posting a recipe next time. I’m still so new at this blogging thing, I keep forgetting to take pictures of my food! I’m working on it. Like I said, more blogging to come soon (again, something I’m always saying… hopefully I can make good on that!)

Oh my gosh! I almost forgot to mention!! I received my very first blog award yesterday, thanks to my new friend Maren! It’s the Cherry on Top Award, and the rules go like this:
