What? 2 posts in 1 day? Who AM I? Well, let me tell you, a LOT has happened in the past 7 hours! Alright, where to begin, where to begin…

I updated my Goals & Progress page earlier today to include some new goals of mine, both fitness and weight-wise. Among these new goals included the following:

Run for 3 minutes straight
Run for 5 minutes straight
Run a mile

And then I went to the gym after work and DID ALL THREE!! True story. I honestly didn’t think I would be able to accomplish this today when I wrote them, but somehow I did! I ran for 12 minutes straight on the treadmill today, running a full mile for the first time since HIGH SCHOOL. Granted, it was a 12 minute/mile pace, but still. For me… that’s kind of amazing.

I feel invincible! I was actually grinning on the treadmill. It was so awesome – every time I thought about walking or slowing down, I just looked down at the minutes or the mileage I had run so far, and thought “I can make it just a little further.” And I did! It is a really good feeling. I know that one mile probably doesn’t seem like much to most people, but for me it means a lot. I really feel like I’ve turned a corner in my fitness, and it’s only up from here!

So yeah! Turned out to be a pretty great day, today! And it’s the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival tonight as well, so I’m headed over to my parents’ place for moon cake and general festiveness now. Until next time, friends!

246th time might be the charm!

I am a large woman. Er, girl. Lady? Female. Whatever. Voluptuous, curvy, full-figured — whatever you want to call it, I am it. Of course, I’m a lot of other things too, but since people base their first impressions off of looks, and anyone who says that looks don’t matter is a bold-faced liar, this is where we’ll start.

I’ve spent the entirety of my adult life overweight. And here I am, the biggest that I’ve ever been, resolved to FINALLY do something about it (hmm, where have I heard that one before…?) I know it’s going to be rough. And as someone who has probably tried all of the (affordable) weight-loss quick fixes in the path (including those of the dangerously unhealthy variety) it will probably be extra difficult. But that’s kind of where this blog comes in — I’m here to stop hiding. To stop pretending I’m “not that bad”, to stop comparing myself to other, larger people and feel good about my not-quite-as-hefty-as-them stature. To face reality, and say this:

My name is Gretchen, and I weigh 246 pounds. I plan to change that.

Obviously I want to be healthy, live better, and feel better, but in all honesty (and this may sound completely superficial but hey, so am I) I just want to be smaller. Along the way, I’ll be posting recipes, reviews, and of course, the trials and tribulations of what will (hopefully) be the lifestyle change that gets me to where I want to be. Hold me accountable. Lend your support, because I think anyone who has ever dieted knows that it is hardly a success when you have to do it on your own. Here we go!
