Timber!

So evidently, in all my postulating about how I’m taking back my height and embracing wedges and heels of all shapes and sizes, I kinda forgot one thing.

Namely, that the taller you are…

… the harder you fall.

Yep, yesterday I bit it, and I bit it good. I was walking back to my car from Starbuck’s after doing a bit of writing there, and I tripped over my own two platform-wedged feet. My laptop was still in my arms, so obviously preserving that became my first priority and I ended up skidding to a stop on my knees. It really was like the world slowed down in the moment that I first started to fall. I felt like everything was in slow motion other than my brain, which was still whizzing at normal speed. It was yelling at me, “Look out, you idiot! The ground is hurling toward your face!” but since my body was still stuck in the time warp, there was nothing I could do about it.

It was triply embarrassing since there were, you know, people around me, too. One very nice woman rushed over to ask if I was okay, and I, red-faced and mortified, simply mumbled that I was fine and then ran and hid in my car. It wasn’t even until I got back home that I sincerely checked out the damage (and of course, it wasn’t until I saw my wounds that they actively started hurting). I honestly think that last time I skinned my knees was when I was like, 8 years old.

Okay, granted, the fact that the only band-aids I have at my disposal are Hello Kitty branded doesn’t do much to help dispel that whole general feeling of little kid-ness. Hehe.

Ah well, a couple of skinned knees never did anyone any harm, right? Maybe this is the universe’s way of telling me to let my inner child out a little more. Or, just to watch where I’m going when I’ve made myself 4 inches taller than normal. Whatevs.

It’s Friday, Friday

So, somewhere in the blur that was yesterday, I remember getting a really good idea for today’s post. Of course, after my MIND WAS BLOWN by yesterday’s episode of The Vampire Diaries (which I got to watch nearly live for once thanks to a well-timed family dinner and my parents’ DVR), I can’t actually remember WHAT that idea was. Fail. Amazing, heart-stoppingly intense fail.

I’m sure that said brilliant idea will come to me eventually, but in the meantime please enjoy the fact that you probably now have Rebecca Black’s “Friday” stuck in your head after reading the title of this post, bwahaha. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially if for any reason you might have forgotten that yesterday was Thursday, tomorrow is Saturday, or that Sunday comes afterwards.

We so excited

Haaaaahahahaha. Okay, sorry for that. To make it up to you, here’s an incredibly embarrassing picture of me from dinner last night. We had burritos.

BURRITOOO
Can you tell I’m having a little too much fun playing with layout templates?

Urrrrk. I think we’re even.

More of me telling you things I like, under the assumption that you actually care.

1. Vlogging

Still hate the word itself, but I am really digging turning on the video charm (HA!) for you guys. Be sure to let me know if the videos are too much or whatever, but they’re fun for me to make so I’m going to assume they’re fun for at least some of you to watch. Consider this your warning that more will be coming, hahaha.

2. 90s Television

If you are 21 or younger, you might not remember the amazing programming that was available for our impressionable minds to absorb. Boy Meets World, Clarissa Explains It All, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Arnold!, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Pinky & the Brain… the list goes on. When Nickelodeon announced they were bringing back some of my favorite childhood shows, I immediately went to seek them out for myself since we don’t have TV anymore (SOB.) Thank goodness for Netflix and the interwebs!

3. Autumn Vegetables

After yesterday’s post, you are probably well-aware of my current obsession with spaghetti squash, but the truth is that I’m excited for all the autumn vegetables that are hitting the Farmer’s Market! Brussels sprouts on the stalk, butternut squash, carrots, beets… I have all sorts of recipe ideas stirring. I’m trying to put more of an emphasis on seasonal eating, so hopefully this excitement about colder-weather veggies will last through the winter, too!

4. Canada

Ottawa, specifically! I’ve mentioned a few times now that I’m taking a trip up there soon. Well, by this time next week, I’ll be back in the Great White North (where I graduated from high school). I’m so excited to hit up all my old stomping grounds!

5. Kidney Stones

PSYCH! (Another 90s throwback for you with that particular word, haha.) This week’s kidney stone episode was NOT a pleasant part of my week. Luckily, they passed without issue (y’know, other than the blinding pain and whatnot), and things have turned around quickly since then. I even managed to pound out two excruciatingly slow miles on the tready yesterday! Be proud. Be very proud.

Anything new you’ve been digging on this week? Colder weather sweeping in? Scarves, hats, and boots taking back the streets? Gaddafi’s death? Oh yeah, we just got all political up in hurr. Sidenote: I was going to make Vampire Diaries part of the original list, but then figured it doesn’t really require a mention. I’m pretty sure my obsession there has been made abundantly clear, hahaha.

Have a great weekend!

Wet & Rainy

Good morning, everyone. Well, morning, at least. It isn’t particularly good in this part of the world, since it’s been wet and rainy here in Northern Virginia for the past couple of days. Plus, when I walked into my house last night at 11 PM, it was like 85 degrees inside. Wtf? I actually had to turn on the AC. And I hear that it’s supposed to drop like 20 degrees tomorrow? I just know that all this crazy weather-shifting is going to make me sick again… sigh. I’m ready for the cooler weather of Fall to come and stay. We haven’t had much Fall weather to enjoy except a few days here and there interspersed between days of HOT. I mean, it’s October 28th, people. I think that should officially count as “Fall”, don’t you? Le sigh.

So last night Daxter & I trekked up to Columbia (Maryland, not South America) to do a Stella & Dot trunk show at my sister’s apartment. Traffic really is a nightmare going up the beltway – I left at 4 PM and it still took me an hour and 20 minutes! I really feel bad for commuters. Pretty much all the women in my office commute from reeeeeeally far away in order to get here each day – I feel so guilty only living 5 miles away! So for all of you who spend an hour each way in the car getting to and from work, my heartfelt sympathies. Whew.

Anyway, it was really fun to get to meet a few of my sister’s coworkers (especially those that I’d heard so much about!) I guess she talks about this blog with them a lot, so it was really funny to have one of them come in, we say our “Nice to meet you!”s and then immediately she goes, “You look great!” Haha. 🙂 Nobody ended up buying anything at the trunk show, which was kind of a bummer but there were only a few people there and I wasn’t really expecting anything. Making money off of this thing is really just the gravy – having all my pretty jewelry to wear is the main point, right?

So after the party ended (wherein I snacked on too many of her homemade pita chips with hummus) she made me a bowl of organic butternut squash soup. I seriously need to rethink my position on soup. An entire cup of this soup was just 70 calories! And I could only eat half of it because it was so filling. So, 35 calories. Dang! And there are all those Progresso soups out there that are like, 60 calories for an entire can, or something ridiculous. For some reason, I’ve never been much of a soupie (save Panera’s broccoli-cheddar soup/deathtrap *drool*). I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I never found them particularly filling in the past. But that definitely wasn’t the case last night! I also like the idea of making my own soups. All the really impressive cooks know how to whip out a smooth, velvety soup. I really need to invest in that immersion blender I’ve always thought about. Damn you, Top Chef! You make me think I can do things!

Aaaaaanyway, so yeah. Thursday today. Almost there. Almost the weekend. Which is going to be jam-packed, since we’re throwing a Halloween par-tay at our house on Saturday! Here’s a hint as to what my costume will be:

No, I’m not actually going to be Snoopy, silly geese. That’s why it’s called a hint! 🙂 And as extra information that you definitely didn’t ask for, I actually played this character in my high school musical! And I’m going to be wearing my costume FROM said high school musical! Which means (if you’ve followed that logic) that I fit back into something I wore my senior year of high school! We’re going to ignore the fact that this means I was much heavier than I thought I was back in high school, and instead celebrate this small victory. I’ll post a picture when I’m all gussied up for the party, don’t worry. And with that, TTFN: ta-ta for now!
