Whew! What a weekend! Not only did it start off with an exciting giveaway (you can still enter to win a skirt or necklace from Shabby Apple!), but the rest of the weekend was full of vampires, food, dogs, and emotional drama. Winning!

Friday night was both excellent and terrifying, mostly because of seeing Breaking Dawn. I am only slightly ashamed of my extreme love for all things Twilight, and I was really excited to see the movie. Don’t judge me! While I fully acknowledge that it wasn’t exactly quality cinema, I was thoroughly entertained the entire time. My only real disappointment was that I didn’t get to see the Hunger Games trailer up on the big screen! And hey, there’s nothing like vampire-werewolf-human love triangles and hybrid-baby-mama-drama to put your own issues in perspective, right?

Saturday was the busybusybusy day. After completing a 6 mile training run/walk (PDR!) and meeting up with my friend for lunch at Sweetgreen (best salads evaaaar!), my roomie Erin and I headed to the dog park with the pups. Not just any ol’ dog park, either, no sirree. Shirlington Dog Park!

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but this park is fantastic! It’s further from my house but so worth the drive. There are always so many dogs, and such a great mix of sizes.

Running with the DogsPack

This means there are always at least a few pals for Harry & Daxter to play with that don’t make me seize up in fear due to their enormousness, haha… ha.

Good times were had by all!

On the Hunt

Post-dog park, it was time to finish up the dish I made for Panda’s Thanksgiving potluck. It was partly a pre-Thanksgiving celebration, and partly a Bon Voyage party, since she’s moving away for a little while. I decided that my contribution had to be extra adorable to try to make up for the sad part, hence:

Pumpkins Pies

Mini Pumpkin Pie Tarts! Topped with cinnamon whipped cream. I’ll be posting the recipe for these tomorrow, so stay tuned. They were a precious supercute huge hit!

Just a Bite

I couldn’t go to the party without putting my face on first, of course.

My espionage-ready face, that is. Hehe.

Tiny Pie MeFaced!
Rachel & ChadDrank.

I’m going to assume I don’t need to spend much time detailing how much fun it is to get together with friends, eat food, drink, and play Rockband. We all know it’s pretty much always awesome.

Although my epic failure at Super Smash Bros deserves an honorable mention.

Gaming for One

As does awesomely running into fellow blogger Amanda!

More blog-life colliding with real-life awesomeness. Running-on-Waffles-Amanda knows Panda-Amanda from work/grad school, and happened to be at the potluck too! Small world, no? We had a lot of fun reflecting upon how creepy/awesome it is to feel like you know someone without ever having met them before. Instant friends!

Oh yeah, and the food. Oh my, the food! I don’t think I’ve eaten that much in, well, a looooong time. And I won’t be eating that much again until… Thursday. HA.

Cider MeWatergate

My plate was literally bursting, and I didn’t even get to try everything! There was hash brown casserole, chicken, stuffing, mac & cheese, sweet potato rolls, squash souffle, asian slaw, meatballs, and not one, but two different kinds of mashed potatoes! It was a beige wonderland of deliciousness. I also had my first encounter with Watergate “Salad”, too, courtesy of Erin’s contribution. Who knew so many processed ingredients (pistachio pudding mix + cool whip + crushed pineapple + marshmallows + walnuts?!) could combine to create such epic tastiness?

And on the dessert table, alongside my mini pumpkin pies, were these pilgrim hat cookies that Amanda made, funfetti cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and an epic-looking coconut cream pie that I was sadly too full to consume.

Oof, so many noms. It definitely set the mood right for Thursday! Speaking of which, I have luckily coerced blog-reader-turned-friend Ania, who is also on her own this Thanksgiving, into having dinner with me! So if you are similarly orphaned this holiday, please email me if you’re like to join in! There will be turkey, taters, and other deliciousness.

Happy Monday!

Family Fourth

Hi everybody! I know that today I’ve already reported on hitting up the farmer’s market and going to Wolf Trap with Jennifer and Amanda, respectively, but I’m back to pick up where I left off and shove more self-indulgent pictures of my life in your face. You are welcome. πŸ™‚

Sunday afternoon centered around a family trip to the dog park!

What with my sister’s new puppy down to visit, we decided it was time to introduce him. Unfortunately, it wasn’t exactly ideal considering it was about a billion degrees outside, and Oreo seemed a little intimidated by all the wide open space at first.

Shady Pup

He spent the first 15 minutes parked under the same tree until Jenny had to physically carry him over to the rest of us, haha!

He warmed up to the experience in no time though:

And it wasn’t long ’til he was officially part of the pack:

Order of the Pack

While we were there by ourselves for a chunk of our visit, we did have some fun visitors come by to play.

I can’t imagine how hot it was for Harry’s water buddy under all that fur!

When this biker came up to the gate, I thought he was just riding by to check out the dogs. I had no idea he had a tiny Yorkie hidden in his bicycle basket! If only Daxter were a few inches shorter… sigh. πŸ˜‰

Little Man

It really was unbearably hot though. The dogs kept going back and forth between playing and poopin’ out. At least they were nice and tired by the time we got home!

A really fun way to kill an hour or so in the afternoon though, and it certainly worked up our appetites for our big backyard cookout! Grilling was performed in between thunderstorms, hehe.

There was SO much food – steak, hot dogs (cooked flat-top style, mmm!), grilled veggies, pork, and corn! Fruit & cupcakes for dessert, too, hehe. Oh, and I discovered the most amazing way of grilling corn! I gotta remember to share it with you all soon – you will die of blissful deliciousness.

Hope you all had a fabulous Fourth of July weekend! We celebrated the actual Fourth today with more family hanging out and attending a cookout at Amanda‘s, and I prepared my fantabulous Mango Guacamole (which was a hit!) Recipe is coming tomorrow, don’t worry, along with what is sure to be a catastrophic weigh-in after all the holiday eating, hehe. Worth it!

70 Degrees? Yes, please.

Good morning everyone! Thanks for everyone’s comments and feedback about my guest post on Anne’s blog! I had no idea it would be so well-received, so thank you! Welcome to any new readers out there, too! Be sure to subscribe to my RSS feed or follow me on Twitter so you can keep up to date with my shrinking happenings! πŸ˜‰

Did everyone get a chance to enjoy the absolutely incredible weather we had yesterday? It was sunny, clear, and 70-degrees here in DC. While I do acknowledge that rainy, drizzly days are just part of Spring (April showers and all that jazz), I am so glad that there have been a couple of warm, sunny days thrown in the mix lately! I would have really loved to be able to go for a run but someone decided that my running shoe was his chew toy so that was kinda out. Instead, Amanda, Erin, and I took advantage of the sunny day and walked the pups to the DOG PARK! Yayyyyyy!

And of course, as soon as we got there they had to tweet about it obvi:

Hahahahaha. It was really fun! Prepare yourselves for gratuitous dog park photos (well, let’s be honest. At this point you’re probably just constantly prepared for them):

Of course Daxter got absolutely filthy rolling around in the dirt with the other doggies, but it made him sooooooo happy, so how can I complain?

Thanks bro for bathing him last night… hehe. While Daxter was lovin’ wrestling with this old Lab named Fitz in the above pictures, there was another dog that was literally lovin’ on him:

BAAAAHAHAHAHAHA. That little Boston Terrier would NOT stop humping that poor dog! Oh, dog park hilarity. I definitely need to go more often. It’s about a mile and a half from my house, so it’s a really great little exercise stint to walk the dogs there and back, plus it makes for really tired, really well-behaved doggies. And I’m going to need them to be well-behaved this weekend because it is JAM-PACKED. Not only is it Palm Sunday this weekend (thus there are fam-plans galore), but I actually have a legit social life this weekend, too! Shocking, I know. πŸ˜‰

As some of you already know, in addition to my regular job, blogging, and general kick assery, I’m also an independent stylist with Stella & Dot (jewlery!) and my friend Darcie recently became one too!

And since I’m totally shameless, here’s a plug: the Petra bracelet that I’m wearing in the above picture is 30% off (down to $69 from $98!) today and tomorrow with code GMA30. πŸ™‚

Aaaaanyway, Saturday afternoon I’m going to Darcie’s launch party, then tomorrow night is my birthday party! Anyone in the area who’d like to swing by and meet up, please feel free! Just email me (gretchen@honeyishrunkthegretchen.com) for the info!

Today is the last day to enter my blog giveaway! Make sure you get your comment(s) in before 3 PM today — I’ll be back to announce the winner later on!

Pedi Party and a Weigh-In

Gooood morning, friends! How was everyone’s weekend? Chock-full of fun and/or relaxation and/or productivity, I hope! Mine was definitely full of all three. Saturday my roommate and I hosted a Mary Kay Pedicure Party which gave us an excuse to be super girly and eat yummy noms, hehe.

Our consultant Amanda brought over lots of fun (and awesome smelling) products for us to try out including facials cleansers, foot scrubs, lip masks, and maaaaake-up! Ben very wisely stayed down in the basement while we were getting our spa on. πŸ˜›

As for foodage, our attempt was to make the event at least somewhat healthy on the snacking front.

Erin did go all fancy and provided her famous decorated sugar cookies and choco-covered strawbs (I know, riiiiight?!)

Cookies by Erin

And then we provided a smorgasbord of other snacky treats, including veggies and dip, pita chips and homemade hummus, tortilla chips with salsa and homemade guac (are you sensing a theme here?), and these cool focaccia stick things. It was all delish, and like 85% vegan so I could eat most of it hooraaaayyyy!!

The star of the show was definitely my homemade guacamole. The bowl got scraped clean! And it’s just about the easiest recipe in the woooorld. Observe:

2 avocados
1/2 red onion
1 clove garlic
1/2 lime

Mince and mash and whatnot.

Super Guac

And you’re done! See? I told ya. πŸ™‚

We also provided a few things on the drink front. Erin had the brilliant idea to serve cucumber water instead of just boring ol’ water to really take advantage of the whole spa atmosphere we were going for. We literally just peeled and sliced up half a cuke, added it to a pitcher of cold water, and voila! It was so refreshing and cooling! I feel like it’s going to be a staple for me in the summer. πŸ™‚

We also got a few sodies for the gang. I know, not the healthiest of options but hey — we give the people what they want! I opted for this crazy green tea diet ginger ale that I saw in the grocery store. I just had to try it! It was good, but surprisingly I really haven’t been missing soda as much as I thought. Who knew?

So that was my fun-filled Saturday afternoon. That evening I accompanied my dad to a dinner with some old coworkers from when we lived in Ottawa. It was really great to catch up with people, and I actually ended up booking a Stella & Dot trunk show! Hahaha, it was the most random thing! But I guess it was simply my reward for making it through dinner on nothing but salad (the main course was lasagna. Fail. Hahaha.)

Sunday, I took it easy (read: lazy) and basically did nothing aside from taking the pupsters to the dog park in the afternoon where Daxter proceeded to get the dirtiest EVER. He and this 12-year-old lab named Fitz were playing and wrestling for seriously like half an hour straight. Apparently size really doesn’t matter!

They only got like one comment on their, er, summer haircut while we were there, too!

Obviously it was bathtime when we got home. Although with the ridonkulous rain today, I guess I didn’t even need to bother!

Okay, okay, okay, let’s get down to brass tacks here. Progress report says…

Starting Weight: 246 lbs.
Last Week’s Weight: 199.2 lbs.
This Week’s Weight: 198.0 lbs.
This Week’s Loss: -1.2 lbs.
Total Loss-to-Date: 48 lbs.

I’ve finally moved OUT of the 199s and DOWN more than half a pound which to me offically means PLATEAU BROKEN!!!!

I didn’t get quite as much strength training in as I would liked this week, due to the fact that I had no working limbs for most of the week, but I really think that might be what it was! I also tried upping my protein ratio for the week, so that definitely could have been a contributing factor. Here’s hoping that next week’s loss is even bigger to help make up for the past month’s stagnation!

I’m going to focus on running again this week, since I have my second 5K coming up on Saturday morning! It’s the Red Cross “Out for Blood” 5K in Centennial Park (Columbia, MD). I’m hoping to wipe the FLOOR with my first 5K‘s ridiculously slow time, hehe. My stretch goal is a sub 36-minute 5K, which would be just slightly less than 12 minutes per mile. I know that for you speed demons out there that probably seems unbearably slow, but let’s remember who’s running this thing eh? πŸ˜‰

And there we have it! If it weren’t raining cats and dogs and lightning outside today, I would be running down the fair streets of Falls Church, but as it is I did manage to schlep my gym stuff to work today so you’ll get an update on how that goes tomorrow. Stay dry!
