Steak Niiiight! (Weigh-in)

Steak errrrverywhere! As if taking me to Ray’s the Steaks on Saturday wasn’t enough of a Valentine’s Day celebration, right? Well, last night the new man in my life also showed off his culinary tactics with a homemade steak dinner!

Seriously impressive, right? Sean really went all out. The surf ‘n’ turf menu included filet with a balsamic & red wine reduction, sauteed shrimp, loaded mashed potatoes, and green beans. It was all him, too! The only thing I helped with was a modicum of slicing and dicing.

Elephant GarlicMinced Garlic

Though, to my credit, the clove of elephant garlic that I minced was a total beast. See the size comparison to the QUARTER next to it? Biggest effing garlic clove ever!

Steak Niiiight

Since I was, for once, not the one bustling about the kitchen (a gift in and of itself!), I spent my time getting giddy over last night’s episode of Glee (I know how bad it is, just let me love it, mmkay) and ogling myself in the mirror. I made my first attempt at doing a true smokey eye with makeup, so I was very proud of myself, ahaha. I felt mildly whorish when I was putting on layer after layer of eyeshadow (there’s like 5 different shades going on here!), but I really like the final result. Not bad for my first try, right?

Smokey Eye

Anyway, in addition to the incredible meal that I got to enjoy, Sean also made a delicious from-scratch dessert: chocolate mousse!

I died. So yummy, but nice and light after that decadent meal. Of course, my enjoyment of the meal was slightly mollified by the thought of my weigh-in in the morning. Pairing last night with the wine festival from Saturday didn’t put my hopes very high. As it turned out, however, this really is my week! Observe:

Starting Weight: 246 lbs
Last Weigh-in: 192.6 lbs
This Weigh-in: 191.4 lbs
Difference: -1.2 lbs

Huzzah! Another pound down and another pound closer to my pre-holiday weight. Not sure if it’s just because my body hasn’t registered all the extra wine weight yet, but I am most certainly NOT complaining! I’m also sure that this loss will be rapidly undone by this weekend’s impending trip to Harry Potter World (SQUEEEEEE!) but we’ll cross that magical bridge when we come to it. After all, you know there’s no way I’ll be able to (nor would I want to) pass up a few butterbeers and cauldron cakes! And at least I’m heading to Florida on a high note!

  1. I want a boy to cook for me! Looks like a delicious meal! Glad you had a good night! And congratulations on the weigh-in!

  2. Um, he is a KEEPER!! Man, having a guy cook for you (that knows how to cook!) is the best thing ever.
Congrats on the weigh-in, too- things are looking good for you!

    • I feel like life is so good right now that I’m living in constant fear of it all falling to pieces at any moment, hahahaha.

  3. You GO girl! That meal looks amazing — and I don’t even like steak! You did a superb job with the makeup, too. Seriously, you look just like a film star. 🙂

  4. Looks delicious!!

  5. Wow, those are some awesome kitchen skills. I approve, Sean! And if Gretchen’s ever not home and you want to make some steak for me… well, I won’t complain. We don’t have to tell my boyfriend.
PS. We briefly met at the last book club, so this is a totally appropriate comment. It’s like we’re friends already and friends eat steak together. Right?
PPS. Gretchen – Have so much fun at HP world. Can we please do a doggy play date soon? Like… the last weekend in Feb?

    • I love this comment so much I want to commit to it on Facebook.

Also, YES. Let’s put a date on it. Dog park date on Sunday the 26th maybe?

  6. I’m so jealous of your HP world trip! I know you’re going to have all the fun. Also, I love the eyes. I’ve been trying to perfect the smoky eyes for a while now and it looks like you nailed it!

  7. LOVE the smokey eye. I cannot master eye makeup, but I haven’t tried that hard either. Ugh oy blah. Also, what a delightful meal! And a great weigh-in – girl you’ve got it going on! 😉 Happy Wednesday!

    • I’ve been thinking about doing that for a while out of selfish pride, haha. If people are interested now I definitely will! 😀

  8. The frozen butterbeer is TOTALLY worth the calories! Nom nom nom. The food at the leaky cauldron is also quite good, and has reasonable options like a side salad, etc.

  9. Man, those shrimp look amazing. Your eyes look pretty awesome, too!

I can’t wait for the epic posts that will surely result from your trip to Harry Potter World. I wish I was back there RIGHT NOW.

  10. That elephant garlic is HUGE! I love garlic. Your dinner looks yummy. I made a steak dinner at home yesterday too for Valentine’s Day.

I love your make-up. I dressed up yesterday even though I didn’t go out for dinner just because I like feeling pretty haha!

I went to HP world last memorial day weekend and you will have a blast! How long are you in Orlando for? I have the Disney World Annual pass so I go at least twice a month.

    • We fly down on Friday and fly back on Monday, with 2 glorious days of Harry Potter World/Islands of Adventure in between! Wheeee!!

  11. Lookin real purrrty for Happy Heart’s Day Gretchen! You take awesome pics.

I never eat steak …. meats. Ick. Just not into that. All the other veggie things look good though. Dessert too!

Congrats on the lb loss. You will win the battle. Just takes time. Probably the most important thing is to stop chewing when we are full. Simple huh? Not always. Keep tryin. I think we all have those issues in life.

    Enjoy HPW!

  12. COngrats on the weight loss! and love the eye makeup!

  13. YAY on the loss! The smokey eye does look good! I hear you though on when you layer eyeshadows and make it darker than normal, worried you will look like you should be going out to the red light district, but when I see it on other’s it always looks good! I may have to get brave, and not wipe it off before I leave the house next time!

… and the food pics, made my mouth water! sigh, is it supper yet?!

  14. Wow, that meal seriously looks amazing! I just ate dinner, and I was so wishing I could eat that one. It’s so nice to have a night off. And congrats on the weigh-in! Great job!

  15. I don’t know if this guy could be any more perfect for you Gretchen! A fellow foodie?! Geeze… 🙂 By the way, last week my neighbors invited me to join them in watching all of the Harry Potter movies. I’m not an HP fan but I welcomed the opportunity to finally see these movies. Who knows.. someday I might be ranting and raving over going to FL to see that magical paradise of HP world!
