I’m Back, Eh?

Bonjour and Happy Halloween!! I have returned from the Great White North!

It was great to see old friends and revisit my old haunts in Ottawa over the weekend. As I’ve mentioned before, I graduated from high school there so I love being able to get back occasionally and make sure those fires of friendship ain’t dying.

Bros for Life

Luckily, I don’t think that’ll be happening anytime soon. I tried to maximize my time as much as possible, so I flew back in on the later side last night. I tell you this so you potentially forgive the fact that I’ve only gotten through editing about half of the zillion photos I took (who, me?). Ergo, the full recap of the weekend may have to wait until tomorrow.

I did, however, get the chance to edit together the sweet, sweet, Canadian vlog that my friend Ai Rei helped me film! So hopefully another classic Gretchen vlog will tide you over until then. If you’re viewing this post via email subscription, be sure to click through to see the video!

Fair warning: this may or may not but definitely does showcase me at my lamest. It’s also a little disjunct since it was shot over the course of several days. So, y’know, no judging.

Okay fine, judge a little. 😉

For those of you who aren’t able to watch until after work (womp womp), here’s a little something in picture-form, too. Remember my desperate plea for help in the Halloween costume department in my last vlog? I was looking for something cheap, easy, portable, and ideally kinda cute too. Well, the costume also gets revealed in the video above, but here’s what I ultimately landed on:

Get it?

PJs + Tiara = “Sleeping Beauty”!!

Haaaaahahahahaha. Okay, okay, kinda lame, I know. But it cost me exactly $0 since I already owned everything (what, you don’t have a tiara just laying around?) and I think I pulled off the punny-ness. I was also given the title of “Sushi Princess” that night, so you can roll with that if you like it better. I’m good either way.

I miss my friends already, but it’s always nice to come home. Well, to be honest, it wasn’t “home” that I missed as much as these guys:

home sweet home

What did you dress up as for Halloween?

    • I never said I INVENTED the concept, Mrs. Allgoog! 😉

  1. All my Ottawa friends rave about The Works and I just realised there’s one in the town I’m living in now! I’m so excited to go.

Cute costume! Admittedly, I thought you were a sushi princess at first too. Haha.

    • The works is AMAAAAAZING! What town do you live in? I’m excited that they’re expanding!

And I am totally okay with the sushi princess label. Although, saying “I’m a sushi princess” isn’t much different for me than saying “I’m Gretchen” hahahaha.

      • I live in London (Ontario). I thought it was a gay bar (I have no idea why I thought that) and then my Ottawa friends informed me of their delicious burgers. I’m actually a vegetarian, but they seem to have an amazing selection of veggie burgers so I’m excited to try it.

Sushi princess sounds like an amazing label to me. I picture laying around in those pyjamas ordering half-naked men to feed me raw fish.

  2. looks like you had a blast- yay. and at least your costume was super comfortable!

  3. good for you havin all that fun, happy halloween, love the costume choice!

  4. Well played! Sleeping Beauty is a perfect costume!! I can’t wait to hear about the rest of your trip. I’m debating if I should dress up to pass out candy tonight or not. We’ll see how I’m feeling later, haha.

    • I’m pretty sure my tiara is going to be resurfacing for candy passing. Any excuse!

  5. love your vlogs- you’re hilarious!
also, love the costume. very original. This year I am a hambuger! haha

  6. I’m so glad you enjoyed Ontario. Next time head to the real north 😛

I am going as Little Red Riding Hood 🙂

  7. Girrrrrl!! Your legs are looking so thin! Check you are in that picture with the jeans and the jacket! You look fab!

  8. Good job on editing the video! Glad to know it turned out well.
I miss you already my love. We didn’t even get you a poutine. How tragic! I guess it’ll just be further motivation for you to come back when you can.

By the way, I didn’t even notice those Canadian beads in the store. Good eye!

  9. Just checking out your blog – it seems as though we may meet on Saturday night! My friend Kari at littlemissyoullgofar.tumblr.com told me you would be joining us for dinner in Old Town.

Anyway, just have to say that it’s not the tiara I was surprised someone would have lying around… Um those PJs are really something else! Love them.

Also, you are a great photographer! I love looking at your photos!

    See you Saturday, I hope!

    • Thank you so much, Morgan! But are you saying you DON’T have grown-up sized footie pajamas with cartoon sushi on them just laying in a drawer at home?! I am shocked! Shocked, I say! 😉

And yup, I’m definitely planning on crashing your dinner and being that awkward girl taking pictures of her food, hahaha. I make super stellar first impressions, btw. Really looking forward to meeting you in person!

  10. I am so loving the sleeping beauty idea as I’m down for anything creative and comfy! I didn’t dress up my dog did, he is a frog 🙂

  11. glad you had fun! And cute costume! And I dressed up as…sriracha! Which you can catch a pic of on the blog today 🙂

    • Ahhh! So clever! It reminds me of an AMAZING soy sauce bottle costume that I saw one year.

  12. I watched the blog (at work) until my coworker heard it and said, wth are you watching! BUAHAHAHA! Had to turn it off, dang haters hating on my speaker having computer!

Good job on the sleeping beauty! Cheap = best! 🙂

  13. Aww, aren’t you the cutest thing ever? I love that costume! I dressed up as Cruella De Ville, woop! Oscar was a little devil and he pretty much hated his life the whole time.

  14. My heart is hardly a heart at all 🙁 It’s like a cave made out of hands.

    • You just have too much love to fit into one shape.
