Daxter Does Life

Clean Daxter

Oh hai there! What’s the happyhaps, peeps? It’s your favorite (don’t worry, I won’t tell Harry) pup Daxter here! I’m taking a tip from my blog dog (er, and cat) pals Murphy and Cody, and reporting for blogging duty to give mom a break after the FIVE miles that she covered yesterday! (The 2.6 of ’em that I did with her got nothin’ on me though!)

Needless to say, this about sums up how she’s feeling this morning, hehe.

Sorry, Harry, I guess not everyone can pull off the sleepy look like I can!

I figured that since you all spend time cooing over how freakin’ adorable I am (what can I say? I do what I do), I’d do you a solid and take some time out of my extremely busy napping schedule to say hi. It’s all about making sacrifices, right?

I know that a lot of you come here to read my mom’s blog because you, like her, are trying to figure out how to lead a life that is both healthy AND happy. And while admittedly I might not know too much about the former (I mean, it’s not like I’m buying my own organic dog food here, folks), I do know a whole lot about how to be happy.

Puppy Dog Eyes.

I lead a pretty good life! So here are a few tips that hopefully you’ll keep in mind as you continue on your journey to find the same.

Dogs like Yogurt too?
Eat good food. The way to anyone’s heart, schnauzer or human alike, is through their stomach!

Run just for the fun of it. Mom would say that this is impossible ’cause she hates to run, but sometimes it IS fun!

Stand up for yourself. You ARE worth it.

It’s okay to be the underdog. The underdog is always the cute one anyway.

Just, you know, pick your battles.

Face your fears. Why do you think mom covered all those miles anyway? For fun? HA!

Don’t worry about getting your paws dirty.

Bath time!
There will always be someone to help clean you up. (And if you’re me, you’re going to get cleaned up A LOT.)

Make new friends.

But always make time for family.

Learn to laugh at yourself. (And not just because you’re funny looking, heehee.)

Give yourself some credit. Because you are awesome. And I know a lot about being awesome.

Work hard.

Play hard.

Rest hard.

Whaddya want?
Just not too hard. Know your limits.

And whatever you do, never stop looking forward.

What’s one thing you could stand to learn from your furrier half?

  1. I’ll be the first to acknowledge…very cute! And not bad rules for life! Congrats on your run yesterday!!! I hope you don’t hurt TOO much this AM? Going out again today? 🙂

    • Well, I think the word “run” has to be applied very loosely but I’m actually doing okay. I’m planning on heading out again this afternoon for a real run, but shorter distance of course.

    • Daxter just asked me when his pal Bailey is going to get some time in the blogging spotlight, FYI. 😉

      • He’s considering making his debut on his 5th birthday, which is coming up very soon!

  2. cute! i could learn to be excited about doing anything/everything with those I love, and to let things go…Smokey will be not happy with us when we take him to the vet and other things he doesn’t like, but a few seconds later all is forgotten…

    • Haha! Daxter and Harry are the exact same way – 5 minutes later and they’re onto the next distraction. 🙂

  3. Daxter, I think you need to come hang out with me and Puppyface. We have organic dog food here, too. And bacon. And tennis balls. And the ocassional puppy cupcake.

  4. Oh my gosh, this is so adorable! Look at those adorable faced!

Murphy says hi, by the way!

    • Daxter says to give him a high-paw for inspiring this post! 😀

  5. My dog back when he was alive used to remind me to be nicer to others, mainly because he was a grumpy asshole. But I still loved him.

    • Their belligerence only makes us love them more. (I would know, because Harry is definitely the grumpy one, haha.)

  6. This post made me smile more than the wedding one – and I do LOVE weddings!

    • Coming up next, schnauzer weddings.

      What, too much?

  7. SUCH a cute post. Daxter is pretty stinking cute- although Oreo wishes he made more of an appearance in this post- he’s his cousin and maybe bff… even if he eats Daxter’s ears and Daxter eats Oreo’s nose. ps. congrats on being in motion (whether walking or running) for 5 miles! Doesn’t it feel great to know you can do it?

    • Guess he’ll just have to come hang out for more photoshoots!

  8. Ha, ha… super cute. I loved this!
My Lilly loves to shred paper towels rolls, too. She knows the sound of the last towel being taken off the roll, and knows it’s time to party.

She helps me remember that life is exciting. She is *always* excited. And I do mean, ALWAYS. (She’s an Aussie).

    • Hahaha, welcome to my life – these dogs are excited about everything. Especially me, when I come home after work. No better feeling!

  9. Let even the small things be exciting!!

  10. Dog posts are my very favorite!! Soooo cute!!! You got some really great pictures of Daxter. My puppies are so cracked out, it’s hard to get a decent still shot haha.

    • Hahaha, we’ve trained them from a young age to keep their crazy at bay when they’re on camera. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist though!!

  11. gosh, this is such a cute posts with such an awesome content!

  12. Oh, my goodness, I’m in love with Daxter and his post! 🙂 My current living situation doesn’t allow for a Daxter, but as soon as that changes, I will be a willing student to my furrier half-to-be. 🙂

    • I hope that you find a dog-friendly place soon then!! 😀

  13. OMG Gretchen, this is the CUTEST post ever!!!! Daxter (actually both of your pups) are freakin’ adorable and this is a great way to start my morning. Thanks so much, and Daxter, have a great day! Woof.

    • Rrrrrrrrrr… BARKBARKBARKBARK.

(That would be Daxter saying thank you. :P)

  14. Oh my goodness, so cute! In some pictures he doesn’t even look real! What a great post!

    • Haha, people say all the time that he looks like a stuffed animal. I lucked out, I guess!

  15. They are too cute!! I (should) learn to accept people including myself where I am. The dogs accept me unconditionally every time I walk in the door and are excited to see me!!

    • I think a LOT of people could stand to learn that lesson!!

    • ::Daxter barks in agreement::

  16. Loved it Gretchen! Daxter, thanks for that!! As for what I could learn from my pooch… hrmm… loyalty, and forgiveness, plus sometimes it is okay to get distracted if something “funner” comes along!

  17. Your dogs are so freaking adorable! I think my cat could teach me to eat when hungry even if it means stopping before you’ve cleaned your plate…err bowl.
