Close, but no cigar (Weigh-in)

It’s going to be short and not so sweet this morning, folks. Short, because I’m sickitysickitysick (yes, again) and despite the fact that I slept for nearly 12 hours straight I am still muy exhaustamundo. So exhausted, in fact, that I’m making up Spanish words for how exhausted I am.

The not-so-sweet part of today’s play comes in the following. As you know, last week I weighed in at 191.2 pounds and was pre-celebrating my entrance into the glorious 180s, a goal that was a mere 1.3 lbs away. So how did things turn out this week?

Starting Weight: 246 lbs
Last Week’s Weight: 191.2 lbs
This Week’s Weight: 190.0 lbs
This Week’s Loss: -1.2 lbs

Womp womp. You can’t make this stuff up. Close, but no cigar.

Not that I mean to sound ungrateful! Of course I appreciate another pound lost and having made it one pound further. That being said… I really, really wanted to see 180-something on the scale this week. Ah, well. Next week for sure, eh? And in the meantime, just because in my decrepit state I need to celebrate something, I shall announce a NSV (non-scale victory) that I’ve been working on lately.

I started the 100 pushups and 200 situps challenges last weekend, and while, no, I don’t REALLY expect to ever be able to do a HUNDRED pushups (I’m not completely crazy!), after just one week of the program I can do FIVE of them. And we’re not talking girl-pushups here, folks. These are the real deal. So going from being able to do, um, none to five full-length pushups of my 190-lb self is a pretty big accomplishment! So we’ll focus on that, and not the .1 lb loss that wasn’t. We’ll still call it a win.

I’m sure I’ll be feeling better tomorrow, and we can get back on track. July WILL be the last month I see 190 on the scale. In the meantime, have a healthy day in my honor friends. I’ll be hacking up a lung and choking down herbal tea from here (here being, you know, my bed.)

PS: In case you didn’t see my tweets or Facebook updates about it, I totally saw Harry Potter again this weekend. It was awesome. Nerd out.

  1. Five pushups–I am impressed! I am gonna have to try this program as I can currently do zero. Cool beans!

    • What can I say? It really works. Craziness.

    • PS: I also need to say that I love having found another person who says “cool beans”. 😀

  2. I’m proud of you for doing the push up and sit up challenge. 5 push ups is amazing! Especially since they’re the real (aka- not girl) ones!! Keep it up- you will totally see the 180’s next week!!

  3. Awesome! You can do more pushups than me!
I don’t doubt that the 180’s will be on the scale next week.

    Get well soon!

    • I’m tellin’ ya, the program works!

  4. I hope you feel better soon! And you’ll be celebrating that victory next week for sure!

  5. So inspiring!! I’ve been dying to see 219 on my scale for months and I keep wavering between 220-225. Up and down, up and down. It’s so frustrating! You’re an inspiration, Gretchen. Keep it up and feel better!

    • Thanks Jennifer — you know how much it really is frustrating, then! But hopefully this really will be the last week in this “decade”, haha.

  6. Dan and I totally started that challenge a while ago! We made it about two weeks, and then… well…

    I’m a quitter.

But great job and I’m so proud of/happy for you!

And I get to see you soon. So get better!

    • Hahahaha, I’ve been tempted to quit on MORE than a few occasions, believe me. But being able to say I can do five real pushups after a lifetime of, you know, none is pretty motivating. I’m so excited for Saturday!

  7. Great job! My scale has been going up and reading blogs like yours helps to motivate to keep going 🙂
I’ve only seen the new HP once but will be buying it and watching 1000+ times with my kids.

  8. Hey Gretchen! I really like that you were able to find a positive thing to celebrate despite not meeting your goal. It’s really great to read about how motivated you are – it helps motivate me! Get better soon. Oh, and I also saw Harry Potter for a second time this weekend. It was amazing! The only bad part is that i feel empty afterwards because there won’t be any more. Womp, womp.

    • Thanks Danika! I’m *trying* not to let the near misses get me down. Also, totally 100% agree with you on the Harry Potter depression. Which is clearly why I keep seeing it over… and over… and over… I refuse to let it end!

    • Every step slash pound counts, right?

  9. Hey — 5 real pushups is no joke! Some days I can crank out 10 real ones, some days I can only do 3. I need to be more consistent, that is for sure.

You are so close to the 180s!!! You’ve got this next week for sure!!!

    • Hopefully this’ll be an amount that I can replicate. And I figure that if I can do 5 at this weight, then automatically I should be able to do even more as I lose weight, right? Logic? Hahaha

    • Seriously, if I make it out of the 190s you will literally HEAR me singing from the rooftops! 😀

  10. I’ve been meaning to do that push-up program for the past 2 years but always forget about it! I’m still stuck at about 10 push ups which is quite sad, lol.

    • 10 is twice as many as I can do, so that’s super impressive to me! I think the program really works — it’s only 3 days a week, but hey, if I can already squeak out five of ’em who knows how many you could do after a week of the program?

  11. Sorry you are not feeling good! Rest up and don’t PARTY so hard! ;-). And for the weight…progress is still progress! Keep it up and you will say farewell to the 90’s in no time!!

    • I’m slightly more on the up and up today, so that’s good. and hopefully being sick won’t throw off my rhythm so I really can say goodbye to the 190s foreverrrrrr omgomgomgomg the anticipation…

  12. Aw, that’s frustrating to be so close… but, 1.2 is still an awesome weekly loss! And you’ll totally be in the 180s next week. No doubt.
