The OC

Just Beachy

No, you silly geese. Not the show. The place!

I’m back from my beach vacation thoroughly satisfied and sunburnt. Hooray! I think I did a fairly good job sticking to my plan to eat better even if I wasn’t eating great while there. Check it out:

Game on.
The Fridge

*My* Shelf in the Fridge

Yup. Hahahahaha. There was, of course, room for a few indulgences though!

Hurts Donut?

Portion control, baby!

The condo we stayed in was small but definitely fit the bill, and it was right on the beach! What else can you ask for? The first picture of this post is the view from our balcony — sweet, right? And the nautical decorations were, well, you know. We all have a special relationship with those fish now.

Even though my friends are fail at pre-ordering their Harry Potter 7: Part II midnight showing tickets (guess who’s gonna be standing in line at Tysons all by her supercool self?), they were a pretty fun gang to spend time with at the beach, I guess. 😉

A New Kind of GameIMG_0024.jpg

We make a pretty studly group, if I do say so myself. Even if we are incapable of taking a decent picture without constant threat of photobombs.

Le sigh. <3

I did discover rather quickly that beach = sand, and sand = fear for expensive camera’s life. So, not too many photos were actually taken of me ON the beach (sad, I know!) But I did take plenty of mini-golf and our boardwalk adventures. As well as several self-indulgent portraits of myself, haha.

As for the aforementioned activities, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait to see those puppies since I don’t want to be responsible for your death via photo overload, haha. So! I’ll either be back later on today or tomorrow with the rest of the pics from the trip. Since I love you though, I will give you a preview of our epic putt-putt game (where I respectably and unsurprisingly placed second-to-last, haha):

Swing and a miss!

Bahahaha. I am the best mini-golfer ever.

What’s your boardwalk must-have? Are you a taffy person? Boardwalk fries? Pizza? This weekend the treat that took the cake for me was the ice cream from Dumser’s on the boardwalk. I got vanilla-orange swirl and it was amazing!

  1. Boardwalk fries are my weakness (as are most french fries) but mini putt putt golf is totally a summer must-have!! love. looks like you had a blast!

  2. You’re back! 🙂

    Okay a few things:
    1. Love the fish.
    2. Love the photobombs.
    3. Looove putt-putt!

    • Yes I’m back! And isn’t mini-golf so fun? In that I-know-I’m-bad-but-it’s-so-good way, of course 😛

  3. That beer fridge just made me swoon.

    • ‘Twas truly swoon-worthy. And that picture isn’t even including the bottles of booze lining the top of the fridge! Hahahaha

  4. I see meeeeeeee! Bombing those photos was hilarious. I was trying to stay in the background, but nooooo, JP and Jeff had to ruin it by getting all close to the girls. heh.

I, for one, do not have a relationship with the fish.

Sad I missed mini golf :-/ Who won?

    • I think JP won overall, but Sean won our game (we had to split into 2 groups.) You should ask Panda how her game went… hahahaha 😉

  5. (A) I loved The OC (the show). I actually never watched it until Babyface turned me onto it!
    (B) I am still insanely jealous.
    (C) I want a beer now.

    • We’re planning on Outer Banks for next summer instead. You in? 😉

  6. I love taffy and boardwalk fries! You look GREAT in your photos. Can’t wait to hear more about your trip!!

    • Sounds like we both had summerlicious weekends, no? I love beach/pool/sun/summer so much more now than I did 50 pounds ago 😀

  7. Thrashers Fries, Grottos Pizza, and an Atlantic Stand Burger are boardwalk musts! I really need an OC weekend. 🙁

    • I have a new favorite boardwalk pizza place — the slice pictured above came from Piezano’s, and it was amaaazing! Crisp, thin crust, not too saucy or cheesy, just right. Nommmmmm.

      • I have a feeling Ill be making a few pizza stops when I finally get to OC. Darn it!

  8. I love ice cream and getting hot dogs, fries, etc. Ok any food is good when you’re walking around by the beach!

I always lose at mini golf! Even when I really really try 🙁

    • That was my justification, of course. I’m walking while eating, so it doesn’t count as much, right? 😉 And also, as you will see later, I am HORRIBLE at mini-golf. It’s the effort that counts, right?

  9. When in OC, it is a MUST that we go to Buxy’s Salty Dog – a Pittsburgh favorite – AND definitely Anthony’s – the best hoagies EVER! I <3 Ocean City, MD 🙂

    • Oh man, sounds like I need to go back, because I didn’t hit up any of those places!

  10. That looks super fun. I love going away with big groups like that. It can be such a blast!!
Generally I’m not a beach type person but it’s starting to grow on me. I’m “go go go” all the time… the beach is opposite that. I’m learning how to just sit and chill for a bit though. I have to schedule a beach day sometime soon.

    • I used to totally be that way too! I used to think the beach was boring. Now it’s preeeeetty much my favorite thing ever. Go figure!

  11. That looks super fun. I love going away with big groups like that. It can be such a blast!!

  12. Look, I’m commenting on your blog! Cease your harassment. Anyway… nice post! And good pictures of us. No foto evidence of seacrets though?

    • Hahaha, ask Evan about those shenanigans. I refused to capture them on film!

  13. Nice post, Gretch. Wish I could’ve stayed for the minigolf…I would’ve given JP a run for his money, haha. I’m working on a beach review post myself…should be done soon.

  14. Crabs! I always associate going to the beach with eating blue crabs. I also like Grotto Pizza.

    • I know, I can’t believe I didn’t get a crab cake while I was there! I did get a pretty rockin’ crab chopped salad at dinner one night though. That counts, right?

  15. I went to OC last month with the following requirements: Pizza Boy, Thrashers’s,crabcakes, and Salt Water Taffy (only peanut butter).
