Daily Eats – 5/18/11

Breakfast

– 2 pieces Ezekial cinnamon raisin bread (160 calories)
– 2 tbsp Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter (190 calories)
– 2 strawberries (7 calories)

– 1 apple (70 calories)
– 3 strawberries (11 calories)

Lunch

Taco Salad
– 2 cups spinach (14 calories)
– 1/2 cup ground turkey (97 calories)
– Red onion (~11 calories)
– Grape tomatoes (~24 calories)
– 1/4 cup cherry flavored craisins (97 calories)
– 1/4 cup mexican cheese (100 calories)
– 1/4 cup 0% milkfat plain greek yogurt – unpictured (20 calories)

All mixed up! I basically ended up eating most of the turkey, tomatoes, and craisins out of the salad though, and didn’t finish the entire thing.

– 18 baby carrots (63 calories)

Snack

– 1 medjool date (70 calories)

I didn’t eat both of ’em. ::shrug::

Dinner

Caprese Pasta bake (recipe coming tomooooorrow!)
– 1/8th box whole wheat rigatoni (184 calories)
– 1 oz. high moisture mozzarella (90 calories)
– Grape tomatoes (~20 calories)
– 1/8th jar marinara sauce (~40 calories)

Eggy.

Spinach Egg Omelette
– 1/4th of 6 egg omelette (120 calories)
– Spinach (~5 calories)
– Red onion (~5 calories)
– 1 oz mexican cheese blend (99 calories)

Total: 1,497 calories!

Hooray! It may have even come in a teeny bit below that, since I didn’t eat all of my lunch. So yay! Despite it being an actually TERRIBLE day, at least I can be proud and strong about this. Details on that to come tomorrow, of course.

    • Aren’t they the best? I just have to try to steer clear of sweeping ’em up with tortilla chips or a big ol’ taco shell, hahaha.

    I keep seeing those Medjool dates around the blog world…are they good??

    • They’re not bad. I mean, it’s dried fruit, so they’re sweet but they aren’t the best thing I’ve ever eaten just straight up. But a lot of bloggers make essentially what are homemade Larabars with them + nuts, so I need to try that out f’sho’!

  2. Sorry you had a rough day!! Facebook note was…ominous! But you surely hit the good mark on your calories. Counting is simply no fun, but from time to time, at least, very useful to make sure that you are on track! Good job!

    • I didn’t! But I can see why that would be confusing, since it’s in the picture hahaha. But no, I didn’t actually dip my carrots in anything. They’re sooooo tasty on their own!

    • I’m pretty sure any taco salad is a winner regardless of aesthetics. Soooo yummy… 🙂

    • Oh my goodness… it’s sooooo good! Have you ever had Nutella? It’s a chocolate hazelnut spread (though heavily processed) and is SO amazing. So this Justin’s stuff is like a much healthier, more natural version of it!

      • I actually just tried Nutella for the first time a few weeks ago! My sister is evil and sent me a huge jar so I made Nutella brownie cupcakes out of them but didn’t use it as a spread. I dig chocolate but think that flavor would be a little too much for me so the hazelnut would be perfect. I will have to keep an eye out for that!

  5. Here is a quick question. I have recently started tracking my calories/fat/protein each day. Do you only track calories or do you also track Fat grams. It is sometimes difficult to balance all of that out. My calories are high and fats low or vice versa. Thanks for your advice.

    • Hi Deanna, I predominantly track just calories, although the app on my phone does calculate other nutritional info for me if it has the food in it’s database already. So I can see the ratios of fat/carb/protein but I don’t pay that much attention to it haha. In general I try to keep balanced proportions but I don’t keep very good tabs on my fat intake actually. I probably should… Haha 🙂
