Dios, er, I mean, Dia de la Madre

Wow, saying it in what is probably incredibly incorrectly constructed Spanish makes Mother’s Day seem so much cooler, don’tcha think? Heh. (Gracias for the correction, Liz!) Before doing my little Mama’s Day recap for you, I just wanted to thank you all for being so supportive about my weigh-in from yesterday. I am admittedly still a little down in the dumps, but I figure I’ll give it a few days and maybe take another crack at weighing in later in the week to see if things have changed at all.

Anyway, here’s that belated Mother’s Day recap I promised you since I was too lazy/tired (mostly the former) to upload my photos in time, haha:


On Sunday my brother, my sister and her hubs, Steve and I all ventured to church and a Mother’s Day lunch with my mama at Red Pearl, a dim sum restaurant on the Columbia waterfront up in Maryland.


It was in an absolutely beautiful location that has a lot of restaurants that I really want to try out now! The restaurant came as a recommendation from a friend that I went to high school with back in Taiwan, who’s living in the area now — I love it when the world is small. πŸ™‚


While we were waiting for our table (naturally things were crazy with it being Mother’s Day and all) we took advantage of both the beautiful weather and scenery outside with a little photoshoot biz-naz:

But I didn’t want to be left out, of course!


And eventually, neither did Jenny, though she didn’t exactly have the best footwear for the task…


I guess that’s just another price we pay to look awesome in heels, eh?


Yipes. It all worked out, of course!


And after about 20 minutes of pretending like we’re models, we headed inside for dim summmmm! For those of you who are unfamiliar with dim sum, it’s a Cantonese cuisine where traditionally small plates of food are pushed around on serving carts, and you simply pick and choose what you want to chow down on! You can also order additional things off a menu or, if you’re my mom, don’t bother with a menu and just tell the server whatever you want and they’ll make it for you, hahaha. But to be fair, mastery of at least one of the Chinese dialects is kind of a requirement for being able to do that…

It’s always a really fun experience, and this particular restaurant was quite good! As we have already established, the food was all a bit salty, but dim sum tends to be in general. Still good stuff!


So that concludes our Mother’s Day celebration with the amazing woman who gave birth to us, raised us, loved (and loves) us, and generally puts up with us! Thanks Mommy. I love you! πŸ™‚

Before I let you guys get outta here, I wanted to let you know that I took you up on some of your advice about hydrating better when not at work.

I picked up a little water bottle that should fit in pretty much any bag I have, so hopefully having constant access will help improve my hydration habits on the weekends. Plus, look how cute! (And yes, that may or may not but definitely is High School Musical 3 playing in the background. Don’t judge! I was muy depressamundo yesterday, guys.)

Since I know that a big part of recovering from yesterday’s weigh-in (regardless of whether it was water weight or not) is making sure I continue working out regularly, I’m putting together a playlist of songs to help motivate me and pump me up. So I need your suggestions! What are your favorite songs to work out to? I want to know!


  1. My boyfriend pays for rhapsody so Diana and I are using his account (they allow up to 3 phones) so I basically listen to whatever is on the top charts (very similar to your playlist).

    These pictures are fantastic and I LOVE DIM SUM! πŸ™‚

  2. At the height of my run or when I start thinking quitting is a better option, I listen to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” The beat works perfectly whether you are running 5.0 or 6.3. Also fun to run to is “Let’s Get it Started” by the Black Eyed Peas because it says, “and the base keeps running, running.” I’m not sure if you’ll like these songs as much as me, though, since I don’t know a single one off of your playlist. :o)

    • Another vote for Lose Yourself. It’s always on my long runs and race playlists.

  3. I don’t always listen to music when I run, but sometimes it makes the difference between going and . . . well, not. 80s music usually does it for me. Hmm, I feel like some Glee tracks might be excellent. Also, I love the pictures of the photo shoot! Especially Jenny ditching the heels. πŸ™‚

  4. As far as workout songs: anything by Ke$ha, mashups by DJ Earworm & Norwegian Recycling, Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the US” are a few recent faves.

    Did you grow up in Taiwan? I was there last March for 10 days!

    • Yeah! Well, sort of, heh. I lived there for my first 3 years of high school (9 – 11) before moving away. My dad was in the State Dept. so I’ve spent almost my whole life until college overseas!

  5. As I tweeted to you yesterday- Lady GaGa, Katy Perry (noticed some of both on your playlist), Brittany Spears and Ke$ha are good. Black Eyed Peas too. I also agree with Liz on 80’s music, like Belinda Carlisle and Tiffany πŸ™‚ Anything with a fun beat that you enjoy listening to. I put on Pandora on the Top 100 a lot to get whatever’s current.

  6. I use Pandora on my phone when I workout with music — I just pick Lady Gaga or Black Eyed Peas and that does the trick.

    I love that your water bottle is covered in ice cream treats!

  8. Hmm, song suggestions based on your list would be anything new or old by Britney, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Girlicious and Pussy Cat dolls and Rihanna. As for singles how about Not Myself Tonight (Christina Aguilera), Body Bounce (Kardinal Offishal), Let it Rock (Kevin Rudolf), Sexy Bitch (David Guetta) Uprising (Muse)
    Oh and absolute greatest song to finish a run/workout to: Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars. I literally get chills.

  9. As a fellow Whasian, I agree. Dim Sum is nothing short of AMAZING! Perhaps to be experienced anew in the near future.

  10. I love listening to Phoenix when I run. I don’t necessarily like music that pumps me up to work out. I’m usually working on endurance when I run so I need to pace myself, so some chill happy music is awesome to run to.
