Manic Monday (Weigh In!)

Oh my gosh. I have so much to get through from the weekend! I apologize in advance for the overwhelming amount of stuff that I have to get through this morning, hahaha. I’m going to try to keep the verbal portions short and sweet because I have a floppity jillion AWESOME pictures to show you all from this weekend!

First things first though. I’m a terrible blogger and have never done a giveaway before so I obviously didn’t think the whole thing through. I don’t know exactly why I made the deadline Friday afternoon when I never post on the weekends but… whatevs. Live and learn! Let’s get down to the good stuff, hehe:

Thanks to my random giveaway picker, the winner of a Shutterfly photo book is (drumroll please)…

Congratulations, Hilary! Send me an email at gretchen@honeyishrunkthegretchen.com and I’ll let you know the deets. Ooh, how fun! I like this giveaway jazz. Don’t worry, folks. There will be plenty more in the future, I’m sure!

So my next big announcement involves a recent change… that will be better explained in pictures.

and… After!

I decided to try and see if blondes really have more fun! It was kind of a spur of the moment decision, and I actually got it done on Wednesday but I didn’t want to post it to the blog until I could surprise Steve with it in person. So… surprise! I figured I had to make that big announcement prior to bombarding you with the following BIRTHDAY PARTY PICK-CHAAAAS:

It was so much fun. I always feel so popular at my birthday parties, ahahahaha. I was so, so happy to see everyone. ๐Ÿ™‚

Amanda made me Mama Pea‘s Vegan Mango Cupcakes! They were delicious! Moist and decadent… totally drool-worthy.

And fellow blogger Julie and her boyfriend Dan stopped by the party too, which I was so, so excited about!

I met Julie at our friend Laura’s Stella & Dot trunk show (before I ever became a stylist myself!) and found out that we both had connections through Anne‘s blog and had already perused each other’s blogs! The blogosphere is so small, I love it!

Daxter was obviously a huge star at the party as well:

IMG_6563.jpg PHEW. That’s a lotta photos. You’re welcome? Hahaha, let’s move on! Last bit you have to trudge through before the weigh-in, I PROMISE.

Since yesterday was Palm Sunday, and the fam will be kind of split-up for actual Easter weekend (I’ll be in Delawhere visiting Steve, Ben‘s doing Easter dins with Taylor’s family, etc) we decided to make this weekend our family celebration! After church, we all headed to Old Town Alexandria for brunch at Bilbo Baggins, an Irish Pub-type bar and restaurant with fun Lord of the Rings paraphernalia sprinkled about here and there. Perfect for my Tolkien-loving Pop! ๐Ÿ™‚

I had the Mandarin Chicken Salad… without the chicken. Heh. I also got a side of breakfast potatoes to try to make up for the fact that I couldn’t get the smoked salmon & crab eggs benedict I really wanted! Only one more week of Lent, Gretchen… you can do it…

IMG_6595.jpg IMG_6593.jpg IMG_6588.jpg The food itself was kind of mediocre. I didn’t like the dressing on my salad so I just picked out all the mandarin oranges and red peppers and called it a day. I guess I should have known when I ordered and the waitress said, “But the chicken’s the best part!” Steve got a breakfast sandwich that had one of the ingredients listed on the menu missing, and Ben ended up getting that eggs benedict I had been ogling but the egg was way overcooked and it didn’t come with any sauce or trimmings! Ah well. The beers that Ben got were good though, so I’d definitely recommend the place as a bar, but maybe not as much on the restaurant-side of things.

Okay! If you made it this far, I am super, duper proud of you. Only one thing remains! It’s weigh-in time… and after taking a week off as my birthday present to myself I knew I’d have to face the music eventually…

Starting Weight: 246 lbs.
Last Weekโ€™s Weight: 195.8 lbs.
This Weekโ€™s Weight: 197.4 lbs
This Weekโ€™s Loss: +1.6 lbs
Total Loss-to-Date: 48.6 lbs.

Womp womp.

Yep. Sounds about right. I have been eating out A LOT, I celebrated my birthday not once, not twice, but three separate times (with meals to match!) and I haven’t been seriously working out either. So, it’s not like I’m surprised here. And this is my first real GAIN in a long time. But it is still kind of a bummer, especially coming off of such a great weekend.

I guess it just goes to show that I really can’t go too crazy just because I’m celebrating (again, and again…) and I do need to continue to be careful and stick to the plan. I still have weight to lose! I’m just thanking my lucky stars I’m not seeing a 200 on that scale again, because if I was I’m not sure I’d be able to stay so optimistic.

So, it’s a step backwards. But, this is a marathon, not a sprint; it’s about the journey, not the destination; always look on the bright side… blahblahblah. ๐Ÿ˜‰ All I can do is try to keep on the straight and narrow and hope that next week I get back on track. First order of business: getting a new freakin’ pair of running shoes!

‘Til next time, friends.

  1. Minor set back- it’s nice to indulge and I’m glad you got to enjoy your myriad bday celebrations! Obviously if you work out…. ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus you need to help motivate mommy with her walking which will be good on those days you’re too tired to go to the gym or something.

  2. Out of the many people I know, none of them know how to celebrate their birthday quite like you. ๐Ÿ™‚
So you gained a little weight, you’ll work it off in no time, I’m sure of it. As you said in a few of your posts “it’s important to indulge (insert beavertail photo)”, or else we’d just go through life eating celery sticks. Oh how bland that would be!
    Still very proud of you!

  3. Glad you could indulge yourself a little. Alas, there is always a price to be paid for our life-long struggle…as I know all too well! Still appreciate you spending timevwith the Family and helping Mom out with HER commitment to walking!! (Sorry the food was disappointing…sometimes a new place comes up ‘7’ and sometimes ‘snake eyes’.)

  4. Your hair looks great!! The birthday party looks like it was a blast : ) I miss all you peeps….

  5. I just started following your blog–your hair looks so cute! I also understand about gaining weight during birthday week. Mine was last week and I ate out three days plus partook (hmm…maybe the right tense) in two potlucks. Definitely up a few pounds but we have to celebrate somehow!

  6. You look like a bombshell with your new hair! I’m actually due for a hair coloring this week before my NYC trip :)!
    You look amazing!

  7. Love the new hair looks amazing!

  8. I really like your new ‘do! I’m also SOOOOOO pumped that I won the giveaway!! This never happens to me!

  9. How do you get your hair to curl like that? I want that haircut!! Maybe you could send me a how-to in pictures!!!

  10. I had such a blast at your party! Thank you so much for having us. I love your hair too – you are an amazing girl and I can’t wait to hang out more at fitbloggin! ๐Ÿ™‚
