Upcoming Excitement

So I’m still sick. But at least I had the fortitude to DRAG my ailing body to work this morning. I’ll probably regret it tomorrow, what with this whole 5K shebang I’m supposed to be doing. I am woman, hear me… squeak?

Hahaha. Anyway, in order to get my mind off of my miserableness (though, granted, I am considerably less miserable than I have been for the past two days), I’m going to make this post all about exciting things that are coming up in my near and not-so-near future:

1. My BIRTHDAY!

April 11th is the day of my birth, and it is most definitely something to celebrate. Since this is the first birthday that I’ll be celebrating on the blog, many of you may not know just how huge of a deal birthdays are to me. I skipped a grade when I was younger, so in addition to being the baby of my family (I have an older sister and an older bro) I’ve also always been at least a year younger than my classmates, friends, and coworkers that graduated the same year as me. So getting older is always SUPER exciting for me! This year I turn the big 2-3… yayyy!

2. Fitbloggin’ 2011 at the end of May!

I originally didn’t think that I would be able to go to this health and fitness bloggers’ conference taking place in Baltimore in May, but I found out that as part of the whole upcoming birthday as mentioned in item #1, I can! So I am! Hooray! This will be my first bloggers conference that I’m attending, and I am sososoooo excited to learn more about the blogging biz and (more importantly) to get to meet some of the bloggers I read daily in person! I imagine it will be quite the wonderfully weird experience. 🙂

Sidenote: By the time I signed up, all the hotel rooms at the conference hotel are booked. So I’m planning on staying with my sister in Columbia but if anyone who has a room is still looking for a roommate, let me know! I’d much prefer to stay at the actual conference hotel.

3. Fitness Bloggers Conference at the end of June!

I applied for (and received, yay!) a scholarship from the conference organizers that covers the conference ticket price (!!) so in June I will be flying out to sunny Boulder, CO for this conference as well! Check me out, being all up in the blogging hizzy. 😉 I’m really excited to be able to participate in this first-time conference, and again, be able to not only learn more about health, fitness, and blogging, but to meet some of the incredible people that have inspired me to come this far.

4. Impending but undetermined NYC trip!

There are SO many things happening in the Big Apple right now that I simply MUST be a part of sometime in the near future. No date is set as of yet, but I know that I will be taking a trip up there soon to partake in the following amazingness:

a. How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying starring Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette.

I’ve been trying to plan to go up for this for weeks now, but just haven’t been able to settle on a date. Basically the second I heard that the star of the Harry Potter movies would be bringing back one of my FAVORITE musicals, it was just fated to happen. Can. Not. Wait. 🙂

b. Harry Potter: The Exhibition at the Discovery Museum in Times Square.

While I haven’t yet been able to make it to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando (but believe me, it WILL be happening soon!), this exhibit of set pieces and props from the movies is at the Discovery Museum in Times Square until November. If only I could Apparate there…

c. All New People, Zach Braff’s new off-Broadway play that opens in June. I lovelovelove Zach Braff. I lovelovelove plays. I wantwantwant to see.

5. Free lunch!

Yep, I would be lying if I said that part of the reason I was able to motivate myself to come into work today wasn’t because we have this big HR luncheon out at J. Gilbert’s today. However, I am slightly nervous due to the fact that A) J. Gilbert’s is a steakhouse and B) I am currently vegan for Lent. Sooooo… we’ll have to see how that all goes. I’m hoping that even if they have some sort of group lunch menu planned they’ll be willing to be accommodating… You’ll get a report on how it goes later though, of course.

If you have special dietary restrictions, how do you deal with going out to meetings, parties, dinners, weddings, etc. where you don’t have much control over what food is served?

Hokay. So that’s my to-do list over the next few months (and perhaps, in part, my wishful-thinking list, haha.) I’ll leave you for now with this eerie picture of my windshield that I took after being thoroughly startled when I got into the car this morning. I swear it looked like this before I even turned the car on. Freakydeaky:

  1. i’m glad you’re feeling a leeeetle bit better at least! We’ll take it easy on the race tomorrow- sometimes it helps to sweat out the bad though! 🙂
    Of course I live all the time with my vegetarian diet restrictions. I have made it well known throughout the office since i’m often a part of meetings where meals are catered. Unfortunately it happens all-too-often that I end up eating plain green salads for lunch because someone forgot, but you get used to it! and i always make sure if i’m invited to someone’s house for dinner to mention my food choices (although I emphasize that i am more than ok to eat, literally, anything not meat based)- it’s more polite that way so that nobody feels awkward when i get there and choose to eat bread.

  2. at restaurants and catered events, if there is nothing they are serving that you can eat, i’ll try and discretely pull a server aside and ask for something more accommodating to my diet. good luck tomorrow!!!!

  3. I want to see that DanRad play too!! Not sure if it will happen but here’s to hoping. Just a little advice on the going out to eat dealio. I’ve pretty much become a private investigator when it comes to eating out haha. Let me explain. I love eating out but I don’t do it often because I’ve adopted the healthy lifestyle as well. So when I do eatout I always know where we’re going ahead of time and do a google search of the menu/nutrition info. For example, I recently went to Olive Garden with friends and googled “Olive Garden Nutrition Info”, turns out they had this fantastic chicken meal which was pricier but very easy on the midsection calorie wise. I googled the place you mentioned and of course there’s no nutrition info for that restaurant, of course! haha. So I would peruse the menu for options for yourself and any side veggies you get mention no butter and steamed for the best results. Hope that helped..
