Cruise Countdown Begins! (Weigh-in #20)

T-4 days until we fly down for the cruise! Ahhhh!! In the meantime, of course, back to the grind this week, peeps. The first full week of work after the onslaught of shortened holidays always seems especially hard, doesn’t it? Luckily, my work-related drama should hopefully be short-lived, as Friday my family and I head to sunny Miami to board our 7-day Caribbean cruise!!!

That’s right, we’ll be hitting the deck of this beauty as we sail through Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Honduras, and Puerto Costa Maya! Can’t wait to get my tan on, y’all. 😉

In other news, work is kicking my BUTT and it’s only Monday. Sigh. I guess it’s only fitting though. I am going to be taking quite a bit of time away from work come this weekend, so at least I won’t have to feel guilty about not doing my part or anything. Seriously, it is nonstop. And it’s only going to get worse from here. But! I can’t let that bring me down, not when I have such exciting plans coming up!

Before I get to the crux of this Monday post (and we all know what Mondays mean!), a little photojournalistic representation of the meals I brought for the day:

Orange

The orange ended up being the hardest orange to peel in the history of oranges, and then wasn’t even very juicy, so I had like 2 pieces total. I added some cinnamon to the oatmeal and it made it even deliciouser! And then I regret bringing my little makeshift deli platter for lunch because it was kind of gross by the time I ate it and now I feel kinda sick. But then again, it might just be the stress – who knows? I’ll survive.

I also may or may not have traversed with my coworkers to McDonalds early this morning and partaken in a little Mickey D’s breakfast. I know, I know, I shouldn’t have! But those hashbrowns… and hey, it’s the only fast food I’ve really had in a loooooooooooooooooong time. I considered not even telling you all, because I know someone will judge me *coughjennycough* but see? This is progress in and of itself, no more guiltily hiding the fact that I’ve eaten something bad! That’s old Gretchen behavior – get it outta here! If I’m going to pollute my body with junk, at least I’m going to be honest about it. J
In other news, weighed in this morning at:

205.5 pounds.

So, a measly half-pound lost, but whatever. A loss is a loss is a loss is a loss (or something like that!) and I’m happy just to keep the trend going, even if it’s in ittybitty increments. This brings my total loss-to-date down to 40.5 pounds and over 16% of my original weight lost! Whoo-hoo!

My goal this week is to really ramp up my activity level so I can feel as good as possible boarding the cruise. Jenny and I have all these plans to work out every morning so I can offset the food-spree guilt I’m sure to have, but I’d still like to do as much as I can this week prior to being in buffet Heaven. Despite my weight loss this far I’m still in terrible shape! I tried to hold a plank a few days ago (tried being the operative word, since I lasted MAYBE 10 seconds, probably less), and my [lack of] ab muscles are only NOW starting to get un-sore!

Today when I get home I’m going to pop in my Bob Harper yoga DVD that I got from Anne’s Quaker Amazing Morning giveaway! I think this will be a good choice on two fronts – it’s pretty intense as far as yoga goes, but it’s still yoga, so I think the mental part will do me good considering this workweek’s craziosity (yeah, I just made that word up. Big whoop, wannafightaboutit? ;)) I’m also going to try to get in at least 2, hopefully 3, runs as well (probably treadmilling it) since I haven’t really seriously run at ALL since my Thanksgiving 5k!!! Aughhh!! I know, so shameful – don’t look at me!!!

No, but in all seriousness, if I’m going to accomplish any of my goals, I need to seriously up the ante in terms of running. I have an 8K I’m eyeing in March, which is THREE WHOLE Ks MORE than the last time! Whoosh! Luckily, I think that 3 months is plenty o’ time to master it, right? Thoughts?

As far as dinner goes, I think we’re planning on resurrecting Homemade Chipotle night! Yum! It’s nice, because I love Chipotle, but it’s still eating out and thus you don’t really have total control over everything going in your bowl. When we make it at home we get the flavors we love (or at least we make it pretty darn close!) with less guilt because we know 100% of what goes into our meal (plus we can make healthy swaps like using brown rice and subbing greek yogurt for sour cream!)

So anyway, that’s the plan, peeps. See you on the flipside – and if any of you have any cruising/vacationing/sunny climate tips for how to best avoid lobstering up the first couple days on the cruise, I would appreciate your tips! I burn soooooper easily, so lay it on me!
