I may or may not regret…

… the smoothie I made today. FYI: apple, blueberry, spinach smoothie — not a good idea. It was good in theory, but all of the fruit was a little bit on the old side, and it looked pretty gross due to the spinach… I think it was just the mealiness of the apples, really. Flavor was okay, but texture… ugh. Also, looks gross. Blueberry blue + spinach green = unappetizing. I had two sips.

So the reason I decided I wanted to try to make a healthy smoothie, was because I wanted to use one of the newest additions to my kitchen family:

Yes, I know, shameful as it is we didn’t actually own a blender or a slow-cooker prior to today! So I was very excited to try something out. Unfortunately, as you now know, it didn’t work out. But my roommate made herself a Pina Colada and it was apparently very successful, haha!

So the dreaded potluck actually ended up turning into a very nice, small dinner with some friends. My roommate made lasagna, which smelled amazing and I just knew I wouldn’t be able to resist so I threw together a little salad to fill up on and cut myself a small portion of lasagna for dinner.

We also munched on crudite and hummus for appetizers, so overall my calorie content today is lingering in the 1700+ range. Not as great as I would hope (mostly because of the salad from CPK for lunch plus the lasagna…) but I’m very full and satisfied and it was all still mostly kind of very nutritious. And in case you didn’t read my previous post, I resisted Cakelove cupcakes today! So VICTORY IS MINE.

Haha i’m sorry the smoothie didn’t work out- the combo does not sound good (i know anne is a fan of spinach in smoothies but i can’t understand how that is yummy) but what do you mean the texture was bad? Don’t all smoothies have the same texture since everything is blended..? Good portion control on the lasagna. 1700 calories is still very good! Especially since you went to the gym!!

  2. I don’t own a blender either but do want to get one once I find a job and move into my own apartment (no roomies and no parents). I always read about all these amazing smoothies and can’t make them. However, I don’t think I’ll ever make one that contains veggies. Somehow that doesn’t sound appealing to me at all. I like veggies in their solid state but in a smoothie? Yuck.

  3. @Jen: Yeah, I think it was because it was kind of a mealy apple, so that mealiness was probably from that. It might not have been so bad if I had been using very fresh fruit ::shrug::

    @Karen: I’m sure more experiments are to come regardless! Not sure if I’ll ever succeed, but hey, one can always hope! 🙂

  5. Sounds like you did awesome on the potluck. It’s all about moderation. Small portions of the foods you like and you still ate some good veggies and stuff so congrats. Keep up the great work!
